CZ TS 2 silver - how to increase trigger pull weight?
« on: March 21, 2024, 03:43:46 PM »
Hello and nice to connect with you all!

A friend of mine is currently using a CZ TS 2 silver (https://www.czub.cz/en/firearms-and-products-product/cz-ts-2) and it has the trigger pull weight of approx. 600 grams.
We are competing in WA1500 PPC in Romania and the rule states that we need to have a minimum trigger pull weight of 1360 grams.

We've found some solutions over the internet, but nothing worked so far:
- Tried to change the main spring with one that has 16 lbs (isn't this the factory tension?) - increased trigger pull weight from 600 grams to 800 grams.
- Tried to change the trigger and the trigger spring, but the new trigger didn't have the small hole where the trigger spring inserts. So we left the original one.

We did a lot of research and we believe there isn't an existing kit on the market to increase the trigger pull weight on a TS 2, probably because everyone is trying to make it lighter for other competition formats.

I've read somewhere that on a CZ TS (first edition TS) you can increase trigger pull weight with a tanfoglio sear spring or by installing one more sear spring (so there will be two installed, but requires work done by a gunsmith), in parallel with mounting a stronger main spring - we didn't try these.

So my question is - what should we do to increase trigger pull weight a little bit over 1360 grams (maybe 1400, 1500 gr) in order to be legal for competition? If you can post the links with the gun parts it will be awesome, preferably from shops within the EU.

Many thanks,

Andrei

Put in a stronger hammer spring?

I have no idea whether that is within the rules though.

In the meantime: Welcome.

You are looking to increase the trigger pull to over 3 lbs.  I think the only way that will happen is if you do the double sear spring mod to the sear cage.

There is a company selling heavier sear springs found here:  https://www.zendl.cz/Pruzina-zachytu-kohoutu-CZ-75-0-8-d57.htm

I can't say that the 0.8mm sear spring will increase it over 3lb (1360gram) but maybe also increasing the main spring up to 26lb will get there with both?  You will have to try and see.  The 0.8mm sear spring is supposed to increase the pull weight by ~0.8lb (360gram).

Here is more info on the heavy sear spring:  https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=120086.0

Good luck!

Cheers,
Toby

Oh and the action parts between all the TS variants are the same.  There are subtle differences with triggers and hammers but the internals are the same.

Cheers,

I have been able to run the CZ75 trigger return spring in my TS and Czechmate. I'd imagine it would work for you too. It also serves to retain the trigger pin if you want to use the CGW floating trigger pin.

There are several available which may allow you to adjust your trigger weight a small amount.

For getting up to 1500-1600gm, which will eventually reduce by 10 to 15% over usage and time, you will definitely need double sear spring mod, with atleast one of the springs being of higher strength/rating.
A regular double sear spring mod adds around 1.0-1.2 lb in the mid point of the trigger(450gm to 550gm), but this could vary from gun to gun. To be on the safe side, aim for 15% more weight than the minimum.
Life is too short to waste on a bad trigger pull

Zendl has 2 weights of TRS and 3 weights of sear springs. zendl.cz In combination with floating trigger pin and different weights of hammer springs there is virtually endless possibilities of changing the trigger pull.
Floating trigger pin is also produced by RC Tech, which sells its stuff at Slovenian cesar-shop.com. Eemann has them too under own brand name at Estonian ipscstore.com  All of those boutiques are located in Europe and functioning very nicely.
zendl also produces different hammers, using which can also change trigger pull.

Now that you mention trigger pull, there are some things to consider before tossing new parts into the gun.  First, changing the sear spring will affect the pull, but that happens because the friction between the sear and hammer is increased.  The sear to hammer geometry is unaffected by increasing the sear spring weight.  The change in pull happens due to increased friction which is unpredictable and will change with use, with temperature, slop between various parts, etc. To really increase the actual trigger pull, you have to alter the geometry slightly and machine the hammer hooks to have a very slight positive angle.

These are just mechanical facts.  How to go about fixing up your pistol is up to each shooter.  It is good to know what affects what.
