3+ mags
« on: March 25, 2024, 11:13:46 AM »
Folks:  My Micro 3+ will only drop free with ETS and OWM mags.  Magpuls DON'T drop free - do you have this problem?  (The BEST mags don't drop free).

And of course I haven't seen CZ window mags yet.

Update:  Magpul knows that their mags don’t drop free on the 3+.

I think CZ is stupid as a box of rocks for changing the magwell.  Dumb and dumber.  Maybe we can blame Colt.... or maybe CZ is having a flashback to 1990 when they changed the dimension of their magwell and magazine for the CZ 75 so thousands of PreBs were orphaned.

This change in mag design effects people who bought a Evo 3 and then later bought the 3+ (like you and me). The new 3+ mags work fine in the Evo 3, but not vice versa — which was a known issue that I was aware of when the 3+ was released.

However, I prefer the AR type mag release and other ergonomic features of the 3+ over the original Evo 3, so I can live with the fact my old mags only work in the Evo 3 (most of which are relatively cheap Magpul mags).

I believe the Evo 3 and 3+ lowers are interchangeable — you might try that. That way, could buy a Evo 3 lower and extra mag catch parts, put them and your 3+ trigger pack on your 3+ upper and use all your existing mags interchangeably between the two guns.

I believe CZ USA sells these, but of course their Webstore is currently down now.

Meataxe - thanks.  You are right, the Webstore is down - thanks Colt.

That is tempting.  Can one simply swap the parts from the trigger pack in the Micro 3+?  (I suppose you must get another bolt release). Very tempting at that price.  I do like the Evo S1 paddle, etc. and you don't accidently drop a mag with the button - and ejection is strong and clean with all mags.  I'd rather convert and keep the use of ALL my mags.  I'm an AK guy anyway.

According to what HBI told me a while back, the 3+ and Evo 3 lowers are interchangeable. To be sure, you might swap your lowers between the two uppers to see if they work, i.e.: that the bolt catches / releases are still functional between them.

The stock trigger packs are probably the same (of course, the CZ Webstore is still down, so you can’t compare the part numbers). However, both the Timney and Ascalon aftermarket trigger pack models are compatible with both the Evo 3 and the 3+, if that tells you anything.

Of course, I myself would probably go the opposite direction and put a 3+ lower on my Evo 3, but I haven’t seen any 3+ lowers available yet.

Roger - I will try that soon - swapping the lowers.  BTW - nice that the lower is NOT a firearm, so you can ship it.

Just looking at the construction, it LOOKS doable, but I'll have to make sure.  I just have a ton of mags and I don't mind the paddle release.  I also believe the paddle lock method is more durable than an AR style.  (Not that the button won't run longterm).

For about the same, OR LESS money than 5 new CZ blind 30 Rdrs I can convert and use all.  (If it all works).

Thanks again!

Called CZ-USA.  They HOPE to have the website up this week...

NO S1 slide stops.  MAYBE someone at COLT has them, but they aren't joined at the hip or so it seems.

There is ONE computer print vendor online I am checking with who MIGHT have them, and I'll see if the lowers do work soon.  But ME THINKS they won't run without a bolt stop.

*************

the S1 lower functions fine in the micro 3+ upper.  But… bolt stops are hens teeth.

When in doubt call Numrich:

https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/627910

Numrich Gun Parts Corp. often has surprising things in stock that you wouldn’t think of as “surplus.” Now to find the spring or a reasonable facsimile thereof…

Or even better (cheaper):

https://czcustom.com/cz-scorpion-evo-3-s1/cz-scorpion-evo-factory-parts/evo-slide-release-44.html

Sometimes you just have to google the part you’re looking for.

Thanks - weird - I guess UI did not google the right words, and I'm usually pretty good at it.  But a carbine has a bolt not a slide.  Kinda like Clip and Magazine.

OK - got a new project.  It will cost the same to order 5 new CZ 3+ mags, but this is a better fix for me.

ooops - no solution without a slide stop spring - and no one seems to have them.  Also, not sure how to pull out and change the front lower pin, and not sure its the same on both.  ALso not sure how to swap/install the ejector.  Critical.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AIMO9onCXs  Helpful.

The ejector looks doable and likely the same - person at CZ USA said yes.

CZ Parts are closed and have been off and on.  CZ USA is NOT doing well.  Of course I need them now.  I don't feel like spending $60-70 on a lower if CS USA has them for $30-40 and the whole thing for $150 - the price of some CZ mags.   It also looks like the takedown pin is different - it is $70 - ugh!  Better to get the whole lower!

BTW - CZ still uses the "moron method" to screw in their FCG to the housing.  They use a soft head and weld the screw ni place so it is impossible to carefully remove the screw.  I suppose the lawyers are in control here, or the foreman who was drunk never left.

Heads up: the CZ USA Webstore is up and running again (more or less), so better grab those springs and misc. parts while you can!

I've been on it all day.  Sometimes I can get the parts but not sign in, sometimes I can sign in but not get the parts.  On my phone I got the "slide" release but couldn't sign in.  The spring is not available though - even though it seems to be.

CZ USA is a hosed up company.  Thanks Colt.  Until there is a collapse or purge or both, its going to be soup sandwich for us.

I've been part of a large M&A.  If it is true that the Colt leadership remained, it doesn't matter who bought who.  They will destroy it.

So, in other words, COLT-cz has “upgraded” its Webstore again…😡

Yeah CZ USA forces you to set up an account to order parts, which I’m not at all in favor of.

Contrary to what one might think, avoid the “Webstore” entirely, which is a total cluster$&@“. Instead, pick your way through the “CZ-USA Products” menu, which is at least a little bit less kludgy — at least you can scroll through the parts with pics. Even so, many items shown as “in stock” can’t be added to your cart, or are just listed as out of stock. Still there’s an extremely limited selection of parts to choose, especially for the Bren 2.

Workes fine for me. I signed in and added some random spo1 parts and they all went to that cart. The webstore used my adress on file and gave me the total price.

Yes - while I was able to buy a part the other day, what is shown as in stock might not be able to add to the cart.

I am working it also through Ascalon Arms.
