CZ 75 Compact 10 rnd Mag, Convert to 15 rnds?
« on: April 02, 2024, 07:40:38 PM »
I don't live in a state that has magazine capacity restrictions.  The 15 round CZ 75 Compact magazines are hard to come by at this moment, but 10 rounders abound.  Can the 10 rounders be successfully converted to 15 rounds?

If the mag has dimples, remove the base plate and spring, and drill them out or go inside the mag with a carbide rotary bit and grind them off.

I've done this many times with restricted magazines.

That would work with the Mec Gar 10-rounders with the small horizontal dimple. But with the OEM 10-rounders with the recessed base plate and the long vertical dimples, it wouldn’t be worth the effort.

An alternative would be to buy some OEM 14-rd mags for the Rami and slide off the magazine sleeve (and sell it to me!). The 14-rd Rami mags seem to be in stock everywhere.

It was to me. Took 10 minutes from start to finish including polishing, dry lubing, and reassembly. I'm not lazy.

Thanks for the fast responses.  The task sounds easy enough.  I just ordered 3.

These are 2x the cost of the Compact mags.  :o

The Mec Gar mags are @ $20 each, the OEM 10- rounders are @ $37 each (or more).

With the recessed base that reaches 1/2” up inside the mag / mag well, how many rounds can you fit into the modified mag?

I guess it boils down to what you’re using the altered 10-rd. mags for and how much your time (and life) is worth. I wouldn’t ever stake my life on altered / bubba-ed mags when the SHTF, just to save a few bucks. Unaltered 10-rd mags are perfectly good for range work / practice — or when you have to travel to blue states…

Actually, when I carry my P-01 it’s chambered with a flush fit 15-rd Mec Gar mag. My spare carry mags are Mec Gar CZ75B 17-rd mags. These are currently in stock everywhere for @ $25 each —Dirt cheap and they’re the best mags available. Not only do they hold a couple more rounds, but they’re easier to change under stress as they protrude @ 1/2” below the magwell.

This worked like a champ!  Ran ~75 rounds through the modified mag with no issues.  Will modify two more and do continued testing.  BTW, I had to clip off two turns on the follower spring, plus I cold-blued the exposed metal from my cutting to prevent corrosion.  Thanks for the tip!  8)

Glad it worked for you. This works for many mags that are restricted to 10 rds.
