Luck struck
« on: June 09, 2024, 11:24:44 PM »
So, with a couple of hefty work bonuses I wasn't expecting and some luck, I ended up with this.

CZ BREN 2 with Aimpoint PRO. That alone is very cool, but the story that comes WITH it is also very cool. First, BREN 2 rifles and pistols are a little hard to come by - all the Czech production is pretty much going to Ukraine, with a new assembly shop being set up somewhere IN Ukraine right now. But dagnabbit, I wanted one. So, they looked.
3 months later, they found one, said it was all they could find. I'm good with that. So, in she came. I opened the box and realized this was a trade show gun, being that a few minor items were missing, things I really don't care about, so no big deal. Since the choice was this or nothing, heck, I'll take what I can get. I broke it down mostly for a cleaning and it's pristine - it may have been handled, but it wasn't shot other than the factory. So, party, bonus.
Until I made it to the range. Nothing more disheartening than hearing CLICK when you wanted BANG. But why? No primer indent, and that means...hey, waitaminnit!
Yep.
Firing pin was ground down, a common safety feature with trade show guns. They either remove or grind the firing pin so it's effectively neutered and safe during the show. I sent pics to CZ, and they overnighted me what is probably the last BREN 2 firing pin in the US. I appreciated that quite a bit, and after all, I told them I would take it, so that's on me.
After all this, how did it work?

This was two days ago, when we braved the heat, with my recovering wife who insisted on coming, to try to get the red dot sighted in. I managed to get it reasonably sighted in for 50 yards before we had to retreat - she was as flushed as the Cowboy's chances for the Super Bowl, and as red as a baboons hiney. So we skedaddled - 110 in the shade. But I was already impressed.
Today, with my son playing nanny for the wife at home, I joined a buddy at a local wildcat range for a few minutes. i did NOT adjust the Aimpoint PRO red dot, but it was still simple to hit the 3/4 scale IDPA steel at 100 yards.

That's my buddy's rifle on the left.  He tried the BREN 2 Carbine and asked only one thing - "You're selling this for how much?" Yah, not.
I was told before that the Carbine barrels are not as accurate as the other pistol length barrels - I will endeavor to find out for certain if that is true or not.

Cool rifle.  Hope it shoots as good as you want it to shoot.

CZ Customer Service?  When?  Where?  Heard somewhere else they're not at work anymore.  ;)

Just had to say that.  Funny sometimes how the same place gives different people different impressions.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

It HAS been different since Colt moved in, but they did step up and deliver VERY quickly.
The rifle is great so far, looking to make it stand up and sing when I get some more time. The only guy that was "meh" about it is an AK nut - if it's not an AK derivative, it's just not right, to him. He also wasn't hitting anything with his AK past 50 yards...but that's a WHOLE 'nother story...

I think this is just about done.

CZ BRE 2 Carbine, AimPoint PRO red dot, MagPul Pro MBUS, MagPul sling, Daniel Defense VFG, and Surefire G2 Nitrolon flashlight in a Fenix mount. I might change the flashlight set up.

FYI, original CZ Bren 2 firing pins are available from HB Industries, .223 and 7.62 x 39 versions, currently in stock.  And some other critical parts, like firing pin springs, extractors, etc.

Well, I’m glad SOMEBODY is supporting the Bren 2 with at least some of the essential replacement parts. I wonder if HBI is getting their parts direct from CZ UB or some other European source. I doubt they’re getting them from COLT-cz usa - the last time I ordered parts from Colt Management, it took 9 weeks for delivery on supposedly “in stock” parts and I didn’t even get everything I ordered.
