Grip screws at back of slide to assist racking slide?
« on: June 19, 2024, 06:47:14 AM »
I noticed these on a FK Brno PSD pistol, and they work beautifully to easily rack the slide, especially for CZ75s and clones, which don’t have much material to grip on the slide. They’re pretty simple, just a textured nuts screwed into both sides at the back of the slide. See pix:

What are these called and where do you get them?

Thanks!

That looks cool.  Just look like 1911 grip screws.  Since they don't hold anything you could use the shortest screws you could find.  That's the one thing I found when I got my first CZ was not much to grip to work the slide.  I don't have a problem now but may one of these days when I get old.  Only 75 right now.

Thanks to severe osteoarthritis in my thumbs, it can be a real PITA for me to rack the slide, especially on CZ75 type pistols with heavy recoil springs.

Of course you could use just about any type screw to drill, tap and screw into the back of a slide (as long as it doesn’t interfere with the slide’s internals) these are textured with concentric cuts on the outer surface of the round-head screw, which increase grip purchase. I contacted FK Brno about spares but have yet to hear back.

By golly, that's gotta be the dandiest idea I've seen in a long while.

Good pic!

The guy from IFG was kind enough to email me back and said they’re called Charging Screws. Unfortunately, they don’t have any for sale yet, only for warranty work, but would request them from FK Brno.

Checking the interwebs, I don’t see anything similar for sale, with the nice textured surface. There are actual charging handles for semi auto pistols that attach to the rear sight dovetail or optic cut, but those things are way over the top and take up valuable space for sights. The beauty of these Charging Screws is that they’re unobtrusive but work very well. The closest thing I can see would be shallow knurled head machine thumbscrews of appropriate dimensions…
