New Project! RAMI #2 FULL BUILD THREAD PICTURE HEAVY!!
« on: June 24, 2024, 11:08:56 AM »
Hi Guys,

So this weekend I sold off my Kimber Micro 9 CDP.
I have had it for 6 years and honestly it was good gun, not great but good all the same.
It was my EDC for quite a while and the light weight was a big plus.

But I have yearned for another RAMI, ever since my previous one was stolen.
It was an amazing gun with a shadow hammer and springs (by previous owner), and a polish job by me and it would do DA at 5 and half pounds, 3 lb single action on a Lyman digital gauge.
It shot better groups than a lot of full size service pistols.

So I bid on a RAMI on Gun Broker this weekend and won!
God the prices have gone thru the roof since the went out of production!!!!!!
It is a safety model, I am not a decocker guy. complete with Case and 1 14 rnd magazine for $695.
It is a little rough in spots, I see where there are nicks in the finish. Hence the price.
So it may be a good excuse to finally do an NP3 now known as a NT7 finish by Wright Armory.

I am definitely going to smooth the action.
I have done many CZ actions including this C100 shown here. https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=63885.0
I hope to make this one as nice as the one stolen 4 years ago.

I will keep you all posted it is going to be a fun project.

Love my little Rami. It is in my EDC rotation and is very accurate! I did CGW old style trigger, reach reduction kit and a mild polish. Put new springs in it and had a local guy mill for Holosun K.

Very Nice!

Yeah my current plan is a full pro package with Ring hammer and CGW DA/SA flat trigger which has a very mild curve to it.

I have been seeing a few with milled slides like yours they look great like it was made for them.

Just wont fit in my console if I do that.

Sorry to hear your previous Rami got stolen — how did that happen? You might post pics / serial number in case it turns up somewhere. There aren’t that many Ramis in circulation.

Keep us apprised of your progress with your new Rami!

Had it in my truck and someone broke in and tossed my truck.
Good idea on the serial numbers.
Unfortunately, I cannot find some of my files since my divorce 3 years ago. So I have not been able to find the serial numbers.
I need to dig thru my computer at home to see if I have pictures of the right side of the frame. the only one I have on my phone is the left side so no serial numbers.

That’s a good looking Rami!!

I’m going to get one of mine milled for a RDS - hopefully they can squeeze a Holosun 507c on it!

Here is a couple pics from the posting.
Hopefully will be here in a couple days since they charge next day air shipping.
The nicks are not horrible just quite a few of them that I can see.

front right of frame

rear left of frame

Front left of frame

tip of beaver tail

and one you cannot see well but the magazine base plate looks like it was chewed on.

I have to say, this will be an interesting build to see how far it will come.
I picked it up today and it is filthy and looks like it has never been cleaned or oiled.

YIKES!
What can of worms did I open here.
So we have a record I have some before pictures since this will become a full build thread moving forward.

Notice rust on frame from slide stop..
Sear cage and trigger bar have tons of carbon all over them.

Mag well filthy lots of spent gun powder down here as well.

Even the slide rails are filthy, Jeez!

Remind me guys, does the firing pin block sit flush with the slide or is it recessed like this one.
First instinct was the firing pin block was stuck, but I could move it with my finger so it is just more recessed than I remember.

Also I did not take a picture of it but the firing pin has some surface rust.

I am sure I will see more as I disassemble this mess.
But I like a challenge and the worse they start the more rewarding when you have something that impresses people when it is done.

The good is the barrel rifling looked good, Lands and Grooves looked surprisingly crisp.

The slide fit decent.

I forgot the RAMI is a bushingless barrel.

Parts fit generally tight.
So I am guessing it was not shot to death just not ever cleaned.

Toying with a few ideas which I will share as I tear into it further.

First step BEFORE trigger weights and measurements length of reset, etc.....

Jeez, looks like the previous owner was with Sage Dynamic doing multiple drop tests on concrete along with other abuse. I think I’d soak it in a bucket of Hoppes #9 for a day or so to break down all that crud.

I’m not gonna ask how much you paid for it.😳

The firing pin block SHOULD be spring-loaded and flush with the slide, so maybe that’s missing or broken.

Hey MeatAxe

Yeah this is not quite a surplus firearm level of abuse but it aint pretty for sure.

So the price was $694 which is a lot lower than they have been going for on GB lately. I have missed out on a couple that were mid 7's but they had been cared for from what I could see. There are a couple more that are on GB that are in the 8's so prices have been skyrocketing.

I consider it low enough that I can afford the parts, and my labor is free to make it what I want.

Tonight I will do precleaning trigger pulls to see how bad it is right now.

The CGW prokit will replace a lot of the items so springs etc... wont be as much of a concern. I am sure there will be a few I will still need.

Refinishing might be part of the plan, but we shall see how it shoots after some work.

Some of these pics will make you laugh some will make you cry for the enthusiast.

So as best as I can guess this is gunpowder residue mixed with sawdust in the slide!

Here is the promised surface rust on the firing pin.

I THINK A BIRD SET UP A NEST IN THIS GUN!!! Ok maybe it is just lint. WTH

So here is the sear and hammer, Spotless I say just spotless. OK maybe spotless is not the word I would use.

2 last things to say for now.
As a testimate to how failure proof the CZ 75 design is, even with a possible broken FPB spring, this gun still blocks the firing pin and when you
use the pencil test it will launch the pencil in the air so the FPB is doing its job both ways.

I always love going through a CZ Case to see what I can find and this one is complete with the factory target.
It is a 2018 gun so it is 6 years old and looks like there is someone out there that did not know they are supposed to be cleaned and oiled. EVER!

So some updated pics from tonight a couple hours with a small stainless wire brush, Lucas CLP, and Isopropyl Alcohol makes a world of difference.
But before I get into the pics for that we have some trigger weights.

The surprise is the trigger weights went up an average of about 6-8 oz on both SA and DA after cleaning and oiling. For some odd reason it was better with a completely dry gun.
Double Action 5 pull average 9 lbs 11 oz.! OUCH!

Single Action 5 lbs 9 oz.

Now the results of some scrubbing.

Another item I checked tonight is the barrel crown and the machining work on the gun.
The crown looked great no nicks any where which is a nice surpise after the other nicks on the Polycoat.

Machining and casting Looked fantastic now that the frame is clean.
It will all get further cleaning when I break it down for the build.

I may do a polish before springs, hammer and sear to see what we gain.
Let me know if you are interested in seeing this.
I like to do builds in stages to help people see what each stage gives them.

Looking much better! Any nicks and scratches would be a good excuse to refinish in the color of your choice!
