Kicking Myself
« on: October 02, 2024, 08:16:21 AM »
A neighbor and I went to a show just across the border last weekend. A vendor had a like-new Canik S120 on his table for $449. I could have had it for $400 otd. Unfortunately, being out of state, I would have had to have it shipped and then do the transfer locally, He wasn't really thrilled about shipping, and said he'd have to charge $60 for it. He did offer to meet at an FFL in my state to transfer it, but that would have been a 4 hour round trip for me. I passed because there were other things higher on my list that day.

I've been kicking myself ever since....

Sorry you missed out on that one, but be patient and maybe another will show up.
I'm glad I bought my T-120 when I did!

Don’t feel too bad. I bought a new one when they first came out to do a SA conversion. It’s been siting with some parts in the safe patiently waiting. Now it’s a project I’ll likely never get to.  :(

I don’t feel like you should be kicking yourself on that deal. That gun should’ve been closer to $350. They’re good guns but they’re not that valuable.

That was my thought too. But this one was looked like it had never been shot, and it's the first one I've seen around here in years.

I would agree on the value because I know what I paid. In the real world (not gunbroker) I’ve only see 3 variation and none were under $450. For that I’ll buy a new optics ready Canik. If ever list my L-120, full-size all alloy frame, I would start at $600 just because it’s rare. Also great; a the gun CZ should have made back in the day.

AZ_CZ - I'm curious why you say it's the gun that CZ should have made. Isn't it essentially a Turkish made Tanfoglio?

Nope!  The Sarsilmaz/SAR USA Pistols ARE mostly Turkish made Tanfoglio Pistols, from a design point of view.
Tanfoglio and Sarsilmaz were business partners at one time, hence the Technology Transfer.
Note that the Sarsilmaz Pistols use the superior Martin Tuma designed Automatic Firing Pin Lock that Tanfoglio Pistols use.
Also, there is no front Barrel Bushing on the Sarsilmaz Pistols like the Tanfoglio Pistols.

The TriStar/Canik series of Pistols are more of a clone of the actual Cz75 design.
The TriStar/Canik Pistols use the same Automatic Firing Pin Lock design that Cz uses. Note the Roll Pin in the Slide near the Rear Grasping Grooves.
Most, if not all, TriStar/Canik Pistols have a front Slide Barrrel Bushing.

My TriStar/Canik T-120, for example.

Weight. They were Already making the alloy frame compacts. Should have add a full size to the line up. Obviously Glock was a thing and they were already experimenting with polymer frames, but it would have been nice. I love my metal CZs but I never have or will carry one. They are all range or bedside guns.

Ah, thanks for educating me on that. The clones I have are SAR and Tanfoglios, so that's what threw me off. The only Canik I have is striker fired. I'll be keeping an eye out for an aluminum frame Canik/Tri-Star now.

That's interesting. I remember reading this some years ago. https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=44376.msg254530#msg254530

Is this supposed to be some kinda Got Ya post? The thread is about FULL SIZE CZs and clones. I STILL carry my PCR compact occasionally. Mostly it’s a P10c with optic. But not to be called out in years to come I also rotate in an Sig 320 w/optic. Sometimes a S&W Shield for a walk around the neighborhood. I have carried a full size 1911 when I was younger but oh wait, it’s an alloy frame SW. Full disclosure I have carried full size metal handguns guns when hunting.

Quick edit: since I posted that in 2011 I traded that G23 for a like new in box P09. I actually tried to talk the kid into keeping the P09. Even his dad thought it was silly, but kid had to try the Glock perfection koolaid.

Nope not a gotcha post at all. I just remember years back you posted many a high praise for the PCR as I have as well. I've carried mine for nearly 16 years now and have yet to find ANYTHING good enough to replace it with. I've tried many different models and brands. Both hammer fired and striker fired and I always go back to the PCR. I do in fact own 3 of them now and they all do holster time.

Yeah I love the PCR but old eyes and new tricks. Getting an optic cut AND keeping irons is problematic for the slide so I moved on sadly.
