About a year and a half ago, I picked up a Sig 1911 .22 for dirt cheap - probably because of its ugly green finish. It's made by GSG, and is sold under several brand names. It was a fun range plinker, but that's it. It was very ammo sensitive, liked to jam, and the janky plastic parts just plain bothered me. So, little by little, I've turned into as much of a "real" 1911 as I could. All the plastic is gone, replaced with a flat metal mainspring housing, an A1 style grip safety and hammer, a GI style trigger, Kensight adjustable rear sight and a Dawson fiber front for my old eyes. Internally it got the snot polished out of it, as well as a new sear and hammer strut. Everything but the sights came out of my parts drawer, so it is a true mix master now. I also put in the Taylor Tactical recoil system and +4 followers in the four magazines.
Now it has about 600 rounds through it and it is a sweet, dependable shooter that eats everything, and feels more like a "real" 1911.
