Stoveiping
« on: November 16, 2024, 05:23:11 PM »
Greetings
Twice this year I have tried using my 75 pcr in competition, both times had to stop because of stoveiping, with factory ammo. In the past it had no problems with any ammo.
Any suggestions about what I might check or replace?
Thanks
Tom

You might want to opt for a Wolff Extra Power Extractor Spring. Had a similar Problem with my P01,when it was new, some years ago.
Fitting, required the removal of one coil.  Never a problem since.

What ammo were you using?

• Under-powered or inconsistent ammo (on average how far are the cases being thrown ?)
• Too much friction in the system (poor lubrication or poor lubrication choices)
• Poor extraction

I think we can rule out the recoil and hammer springs if the gun previously ran good.
Have you cleaned under the extractor ?
But exactly what has changed since the issue started ?

I use my PCR in our local action shooting matches. The only time I had any stovepiping was during a stage that was almost all one handed, off hand shooting at awkward angles.  I attributed it to limp wrist. No issues before or since.

I own 3 PCR's with tens of thousands of rounds through them combined. Never a failure to feed or eject. We need more info. Ammo type, hold type, what exactly were you doing at the time of failure? Have you marked the magazines to be sure the failure is with one or more mags? Things of that nature.
Make sure the extractor is not damaged. Make sure the extractor channel is clean and not fouled with gunk.
Tell us everything.

To clarify, I was using Winchester White Box, and, I think the jam was actually double feeds.

I would make sure the extractor is not damaged and the channel is clean number one. Number two I would buy better ammo and see how things go from there. Winchester White box has always been bottom of the barrel crap and problematic across the board.

Agreed that these should be the first steps. WWB is well known to be marginal in most guns.

Thank you all for the pointers. I'll check the extractor. But, I just shot 100 rounds of handloads with no problems.

That points to the ammo, but handloads could be more consistent or simply higher power.

AGAIN... On average how far are the cases being thrown ?

Thanks to all for the input.
I corrected the overall cartridge length on 1500 rounds and did an Mcarbo trigger kit.
Seems to be working fine.
