If you're not shooting IDPA SSP, you could simply drill/tap the top of the mag release and install a thick flat screw as a mag EXTENSION (and then grind down and polish the head until the groove was gone). (That change would be illegal in some venues.) (A gunsmith once made a trigger stop for me in that manner. Worked perfectly.)
The 85 Combat mag release only adds a small fraction of an inch in height to the mag release. Not sure its worth the effort.
There are extended slide releases around, as I have one mounted on my 75 Compact; I got it from Eric (UT83) who picked up several, a couple of years ago. He hasn't seen any, since (according to recent response.)
EAA slide stops don't always fit and seldom hold back the slide with an empty mag.
