new to CZ....a few questions
« on: October 22, 2005, 02:39:01 PM »
As a lefty, the 85 Combat is a dream come true with ambi safety AND slide release.
What would make it the perfect 9mm would be an ambi or reversible mag release ( ie Beretta 92 )

Although not noted in the marketing write ups, I was told there's
a way to switch the mag release to the right side of the gun.....

Make my day and tell me its true!

Also, I'm planning to swap out the front sights for tritium.
Where do I find tritium front sights...do I need a gunsmith?
( I replaced my front sights on my Kimbers with the specialized tool)

I may have answered this in another club area.

The mag release isn't reversible.  None of the mag releases on full-size 75-based guns (75B DA/SA, 75B SA, 85B, 85 Combat) can be reversed.

Meprolight has the front sights you want, as do XS Sights, and PT.  (Trijicon, too, probably.)

The front sight can be done by most folks.  The sight is held in the length-wise dovetail by a small pin.  The sight will have to be slightly grooved on the bottom to allow the pin to pass through.  (Use the old sight as a guide.)

Not quite true.
I have not tired it BUT
The new SP01 has ambi safety although no ambi slide release but that not really neccessary anyway, it also has the ability to revesre the magazine release.
If the CZ in question has the new style magazine release with the same shape hole on both side of the gun then it should be reversible the newer magazine are cut both sie for the relesase although one cut looks a little lower then the other this could be to accomodate the switcharo

The compact models with the accessory rail all seem to have reversible mag releases.  The SP-01 frame seems to be similar to the P-01, so I'm not surprised that the release is reversible.

The secret, as I noted in another area, is to check the shape of the mag release openings on the grip.

As Angus notes, if the mag release shape is the same on both sides of the grip, you're in business.  But, that is not the case with the standard 75B DA/SA, 75B SA, 85B or 85 Combat.

I stand corrected.  Matthew is right. My SA is also reversible.  My error.

The 75B (standard) the 75 Compact, the 85B, and the 85 Combat are not reversible.  I assume that the PCR is NOT, also.  The other compacts appear to be reversible, as is the SP-01 -- as Angus states.  (I haven't had my hands on a SP-01, yet.)

And as the original quetion was about the 85 Combat -- it is NOT reversible.

Seems as though CZ ought to make that change.

Man If I had my way the only "old style" frame would be on the retro.
All CZ 75 would come with the SA style frame.

If memory serves me correct, the PCR's mag release is reversible also.  It has the same extended button as the P-01/SP-01/SA's.

+1  - 100% agreed

That's why my CZ85combat in hard-chroming now after some grooming I performed on her beaver tail.

By the way, Angus - your hammer makes all difference in the world. Why didn't you make me change it sooner?;)

Stay safe,
