It is tested at the factory with S&B, as indicated on the test target that comes with the pistol. I use this for carry. DON'T use reloads, and DON'T use Blazer aluminum, and you should be good to go.

The best I have found for general purpose with the P-01 has been the GECO (Dynamit Nobel) 124 gr. FMJ. This appears to have dried up somewhat, but individual sellers still have it (gun dealers, gun show vendors, etc.). Next would be the Federal American Eagle 124 gr. FMJ.

In defensive loads, the 124 gr. Speer Gold Dots or 124 gr. Remington Golden Sabers perform quite well. These are 9mm +P loadings, which the P-01 can shoot all day.

I shoot reloaded ammunition in the P-01 all of the time, but they are my own handloads. Most duplicate the GECO loading above (124 gr. FMJ at @1,175 fps, with Nobel SP-8 powder). The main reason not to carry reloaded ammunition is because of the fact that commercial ammunition has sealed primers and casemouths, whereas virtually no handloaders go this extra mile. (I know I don't.)

As you can see, I favor the 124 gr. weight, but in my testing, so do most CZs!

Hi Mike,

Reloads can very in consistency depending on the reloader. I have shot 40,000-50,000 of my own reloads over the years, with wheel guns, and never had a problem, BUT when you read about guns going KABOOOOOOOM it is usually with gun show, or real cheap reloads.

www.ammoman.com www.natchezss.com usually have some 9mm on sale. Wall Mart also sells Winchester White Box at a very competitive price.

Gotcha ... had you said commercial reloads, I'd probably would not have even responded.  Like you, I've got quite a few reloads to my credit with no failures.  But I also don't shoot other peoples reloads.

Another fly-in-the-ointment for reloads - your own or anybody else's - as carry/self defense ammo is that you deprive your legal defense of potentially vital data in criminal or civil cases concerning your use of lethal force in self defense.  With commercial ammo your defense can replicate proof or disproof for various contentions regarding your distance from and position re your attacker, or even for your allegedly reckless endangerment of innocent bystanders.  With reloads you cannot.  Massad Ayoob has written extensively on this very point.  And unscrupulous opposing counsel can even try to paint you falsely as a Rambo who recklessly loads his/her own "more lethal/inhumane ammo."  You might not like this, but it is a price we pay for overly ambitious prosecutors and sleazy litigators.

I've shot the following ammo through my P-01:
Remington 147gr. Golden Saber JHP (my carry ammo),
Winchester White Box 115gr. FMJ,
UltraMax LRN reloads (I think they are 115gr.),
Remington UMC 115gr. FMJ,
Blazer Aluminum 115gr. FMJ.

The only ammo that has ever given me problems is the Blazer aluminum; everything else has worked perfectly in my CZ (I have about 1,500 rounds through it).

Failures to extract.  This is a design problem (aluminum cases weigh less) that effects a lot of individual pistols.  In other words, it isn't specific to the P-01 or CZs, and you may or may not have the problem.

+1 on the Speer 124 gr +P Gold Dots for carry/defense! For plinking/targets, everything I've tried has worked: UMC, S&B, AE, WWB, Remington, CCI brass and aluminum, Fiocchi (including the 92 gr flat nose... talk about soft recoil!).

Bill

ETA: 124 gr. AE and S&B seemed to be most consistently accurate, but I'm not really good enough to say for sure.

I had issues with Blazer. WWB seems to work well for me.

In my P-01, I had numerous failures to extract with Blazer aluminum.
