Taurus 24/7 Pro 9mm
« on: January 04, 2008, 09:17:40 PM »

A few months ago I was doing some Gun trading/selling and I decided I needed a light poly framed pistol in 9mm. I took quite a liking to this one in spite of the fact it wasn't my favored DA/SA trigger action or a CZ or a Tanfoglio. I had already had very good luck with other Taurus pistols, namely a PT92 (Beretta 92 Clone), a PT908 (Sig P239 Clone), and a PT945 (Sig P220 Clone), so I decided to take the plunge! So far ( approx 700 rounds) it has been extremely reliable and very accurate! It's Trigger took a little getting used to, but not much. I like it alot! Am considering one or two (Standard and/or Longslide) in .45 ACP, but that will be down the budget road.

Taurus PT24/7 9mm
Standard Blue Finish
17 round Magazine Capacity
SA/DA Trigger Action (as opposed to the traditional DA/SA that I have preferred)
Manual Safety for Cocked and Locked use
New Dual Recoil Spring System (Similar to Seecamp System, older 24/7's only had a Single Recoil Spring)

Getting a good holster for it has been a bit of a challenge. So far I have two nice ones. One is a Tagua thumb-break and the other a rather generic horizontal lined Nylon shoulder holster that seems to fit just about anything. Still looking for a good open top "Range Holster" and am considering making my own.

Tagua Thumb-break for H&K USP 9mm, also fits the Taurus 24/7 9mm

Tauras makes a product that is every bit as good as lets say Ruger! I'm much more partial to their heavy revolvers in the big calibers as their prices are so attractive compared to S&W's. My brother owns the same pistol as yours but in .40 S&W, it's been very reliable...

I like Taurus guns, too, but I sure wouldn't call any of their PT series "clones" of the SIG line.  As best I can tell, they're not close to clones.

My 9mm 24/7 Pro continues to be a stellar performer.  Denalipark - Glad your brother's 24/7 is working well!

Walt - Having owned a SigArms P220 and P226 and still owning a Taurus PT945, I would say that the PT945 is as close to cloning a Sig P200 as you can get without Patent infringement issues, designwise.  Trigger Action design is from Beretta.  Safeties are proprietary Taurus. I consider it an improved P220.  Slightly lower bore axis and standard 8 round capacity.  Both are fairly muzzle flippy, recoil-wise.  My SigArms P220 was slightly more accurate.  Currently considering trading off the PT945 for a 24/7 Pro Longslide .45.

The things you describe sound like some significant design differences -- the kind of differences you don't generally see in a "clone." . The one pictured also has the external trigger-bar linkage (as in a Beretta). Do the mags interchange? Bet they don't. "Similar to," perhaps? That's not to say that they're not good guns.

I've only had one Taurus, but have shot several. Almost traded for one of their early Beretta clones, once.

Getting back to the topic of this thread, Gunblast has an online review of a Taurus 9mm 24/7 Pro, albeit a Longslide version.
It's a good read!

Dick Metcalf does torture testing (run over with truck, dirt, mud, and sand) of a .45 Taurus 24/7.

Had not realized that I had not updated this with new pics and my latest acquisition, which would be the Taurus 24/7 OSS in .45 ACP

Taurus 24/7 Pro 9mm

Taurus 24/7 OSS .45 ACP

Both Pistols now have about 1500 rounds each thru them and have had no issues.  Accuracy and reliability have been stellar.  The 24/7 Pro 9mm has been a constant companion.

Too bad they are now discontinued in favor of the new 24/7 G2 Models.
