Holster suggestions for my new Witness 9mm
« on: September 02, 2008, 03:32:37 PM »
Hi All:

I'm relatively new here.  I recently bought a really nice used Witess Match in 9 mm.  I took it to the range the other day and shot it and was totally impressed by how it worked and how accurate it was.  My question is in regards to a decent holster for it to carry and use for USPSA shoots.  I bought a Safariland 568 for it and when it came, I was more than a little disappointed by the way the gun fit in it, or should I say, didn't fit in it.  It was advertized for this gun but for a lot of others as well which, in my opinion makes it a generic holster.  Maybe I am expecting too much from it but it seems like it should let the gun in and out of it without binding as bad as it does.  I have even tinkered with it and added spacers to open it up a bit and all that and it seems to have helped some but, when I put it on and try to draw the pistol from it, it binds consistently.  I am seriously thinking of sending it back to Midway for a refund and looking for something else. I have an Uncle Mike's Kydex for my 1911 and it works nicely and didn't break the bank Does anyone have any suggestions about a really nice holster that works with this piece?

Hi rjoy and welcome to our site.  Something you might want to try until you find the holster you like is a product called KG-9 Micro Teflon Leather Kote.   I use this on all of my holsters and I find it greatly speeds up the break-in, making the draw much easer.  An added benefit is it protects the gun from the holster and the holster from the gun.   I use an old toothbrush to apply the KG-9 to the inside of the holster working it into the leather.   Hope this helps.  R S

Blade Tech is the only one who makes a specific holster for the Elite Match.

Try the Fobus GL3 Paddle for the Glock 21, if yours has the more squared slide profile.  Also consider the new Fobus HK-2 Holster. ( I have one on order to try for another pistol and it may also fit my newer 2004 EA Series Witness.)

If yours has the new/retro rounded slide profile, then the Fobus RU97 (Ruger P-Series) may fit.

My older AE Series Witness fits the Fobus RU97 perfectly.  My newer 2004 EA Series Witness fits the Fobus GL3.

So a Glock 21.  Wonder if any CZ 97's, HK, .45 M&P, etc will work.  I will have to try it out.

The Fobus SG21 fits my Elite Match and compact steel 10mms (squared, blocky slide) pretty well.  It's a little tight on the slide, but it does fit in pretty good and the trigger guard catch does work with the large frame witness.

The compact is short of the end of the holster.  Standard steel would be just about flush.  The Match sticks out about 3/4".

For a soft holster, the Bianchi 7500 series Accumold paddle size 11 fits the compact slide nearly perfect.  It's a thumb-strap style.  The strap is just *slightly* off the ideal angle for the witness, but it works fine.  The size 13 fits the fullsize steel Witness.  It's too short for the Match though.  The size 11 & 13 are pretty much identical other than the length.  I'm pretty sure the size 15 is longer yet and would work with the Match, but I haven't laid hands on one to actually try out.

The only downside about these is the adjustable paddle.  It's not as 'tight' as it could be.  It moves around more than I would like.  It's fine for just walking around, but a non-adjustable paddle or the belt-slide version would feel better if you're active at all.

The Fobus HK2 Holster just came.  Tried my 2004 EA Series .45 Witness in it and it fits very nicely!
