Ruger's ain't bad either you know :-)
« on: September 07, 2008, 12:22:11 PM »
Hi all! Hope everything is well.

It's been hot (not as bad as it has been for the Mrs, but to hot for me!) and hunting season is approaching. Kevin (fiance) had two firearms, a savage and a winchester, 222 and 243, bench rest. They sure were pretty.

Last year I went out for buck with the 243, and it's a nice gun for sure, but it's sooo heavy because it's customized for bench rest. Since neither of us compete in bench, Kevin decided it would be a brilliant idea to sell both of them in exchange for a hunting rifle for me.

Well, I ended up with a Ruger M77 Mark II 243 in synthetic with the stainless steel action and bore. Gosh is it purty, and it's soooo light in comparison. The reviews on it are quite dandy.

It was amusing, because the store we were at always shows us the good stuff. The guys there actually have a clue. But this time, I gave my range and requests, and he hands me this beautiful Ruger... and right after hands me this Remington P-O-S. Matt action and barrel (no bluing), synthetic black, coarse stock, the action was built TERRIBLY (I can't remember which model it was), and brand new was $500 (which was the same as the Ruger).

Moving right along then. I need to get a scope, but as soon as I do and get it all sighted in and get to pull the trigger, I'll let ya'll know what I think.

Take care!

Krystal

Congratulations on the Ruger M77 Mark II Synthetic in .243!  Ruger does make some nice rifles and I do like their Bolt Actioned Rifles.  Just never got around to buying any (Ruger Bolt Actioned Rifles.)  I always got side tracked by some Mauser Actioned something or other.  Perhaps I'll get around to buying one someday.  Have thought of building a Custom Bolt Gun in .35 Whelen.

I do have 2 Ruger Mini-14's, a Mini-30, 10/22, Mark II .22 Standard, and a Speed Six 3 inch .38 Revolver.  All are good shooters, reliable, and accurate.

Best of Luck this Deer Season!

We still have the Ruger Mark II .22 Competition Target pistol, that's what Kevin started me on at the range and I fell in love with it, it's a super fun gun (such a pain to clean though!).

I'm still looking at the Ruger LCP, that'll probably be in another two or three months. There's some stuff I want for my CZ 75 and being that's my primary carry gun (and that I need a scope for the bolt ruger).. well, yea. $$$!

Take care!

Hi Krystal, I am so glad you posted today. I was wondering where you were thease past few days. Congrats on your Ruger. Sounds like a fun rifle. Yes indeed let us know what you think after you test it at the range. I just have a Ruger 10/22 I know it's wimpy but I like shooting it. Easy trigger pull and not real heavy at all.

 Good luck during deer season.

Well, Kevin and I took our crew up to the range again on Friday. The 243 certainly performs, it's very comfy, nice and light, quite accurate. I have a Nikon pro-staff 3x9 on it that for the money can't be beat. It was great.

The trigger is easy, very little travel, a hard but defined break that allows for some safety, but not to much movement.

I like it a lot :-)

Sweet!  Now you get to learn how to handload for it, so you can shoot it more often!

I won't own a Ruger bolt action.

Missed up a huge 6 x6 one year, due to a miss-fire with a Ruger.

However, that gun is now sold.

Nary.. such a problem with the many CZs since then.

I have a Ruger 10/22 and I love it. My dad had a bolt action 10/22 but my ex-brother stold it. Jerk. Mine is not a bolt action but it's fun to shoot. I would still like a CZ452 American someday.
I'm sorry you had to sell guns Kev. I have done the same thing.

Don't forget the newest Ruger to be shown everywhere, the LCR, an ultralight weight 38 5 shot snub, with POLY lower frame, alloy upper frame and barrel shroud, with the most severely scalloped steel cylinder I have ever seen. Looks like a very interesting ultra deep cover backup.
