VZ 58 - Optics Moun
« on: October 26, 2008, 09:01:04 PM »
Hey Everyone,

I need some help mounting a red dot on my 58. Its new and I guess the mounts are not as plentyful as I thought.
Has anyone else got one, or know a good solid mounting solution?

The AK ones are bolt cover replacements, not compatable with the 58.

There is one rail system I know of, an Israeli company makes it, found here... http://www.zahal.org/FAB/sa58.html  I was going to order, but ran short on fundage. Also, CZ-USA has said they are looking at importing some nice aftermarket stuff for the vZ-58, including scope mounting stuff, as it's popularity is getting huge.!

Appreciate the help, I just ordered one from the site.
I will give you an update on the install, fit and finish.
I was not to impressed with the pic's, looked cheap and flimsy
then I clicked on a video that shows it mounted on the 58 with
a red dot, the guy squeezes off a few rounds, it looks like a
nice set up, so I said what the hell and got it. I ordered several of the
magazine deals that are currently on the CZ store site. They arrived yesterday
and I was plesently suprised. The mags are new, clean, and 4 in a nice leather pouch.
It's $119.00. Which I think is not bad.

http://scoutscopes.com makes a mount for the Vz58, but isn't listed on their website (they sell it through Marstar Canada).  You can call them and order one, though (they are a US company).

Mind you, it's Eastern Europe. They've got their own standard on "customer service" ;D ;D

It took them 2 months to deliver after payment. But.. It's the best deal you can find.

I'm happy with my Fab Defense handguard w/ top rail and Aimpoint M2 setup

this aluminum mount looks pretty nice, but it's 4X the price  :P

Is anyone using the Zahal gear? Their forearm with rails looks like it would do the trick nicely for mounting a red dot, or scope. I'm also interested in their foregrip/bipod combo as well as the collapsible stock and pistol grip. The stuff looks good and would add a great deal of flexibility to the little vz. Would be nice to know if anyone has experience with their product before laying out the cash though. Still, mighty tempting...  ::)

I have the Fab Defense forearm and grip that I ordered from Zahal.? build quality is excellent.? took a little work to fit the grip. had to source my own 6mm screw and washer from Home Depot and the screw/bolt angle seemed a little too steep at first but it's just a tight fit - guess they figured it's better to err on the side of caution rather than have a loose-fitting grip which is fine with me.? Handguard fits like the factory.? Once you learn to remove the upper guard by rotating/twisting the inner metal cover rather than prying, it's easy. the material is very similar in feel and appearance to what Magpul uses on their synthetic parts - definitely high quality.? the new aluminum setup might be even better but at $250, I'm not ready to ditch an already well-made and functional part to try it out.

FD's folding/collapsible stock is $350 so I didn't bother.? the AR adapters from Infratek are now ready and mine is on the way (after a 2 month wait).? I picked up the adapter and a Magpul CTR w/ buffer tube for under $200 total. I like the idea of being able to use Magpul, VLTOR, ACE, etc rather than just an M4 knockoff buttstock.? if you really want a folding stock though, FD might be your only option here in the US.

I was waiting on the stock adapter to post pics of my VZ but maybe I'll snap a few of the handguard and Aimpoint.

Now I have just received my new hand guard, but I cannot seem to figure out how to remove the lower one?

Can anyone please advise me?

Thanks, Jeff

On the bottom there is a pin. You need to remove it with a hammer and an "Icepick" (sorry, don't know the correct name for the tool).
