What does the 'R' mean on the box?
« on: January 11, 2009, 08:42:29 PM »
Hello All,

After reading all the great comments about the CZ 75b I decided to buy one at one of the gun shows this weekend.  I ended up with a 75b 40 with the polycoat finish.  My question is that the CZ box reads CZ 75 B cal. 40 S&W Black Polycoat 'R'.  Does anyone know what the 'R' stands for?

Thanks for the replies,

Daniel

To answer my own question, I believe it has something to do with the firing pin safety.  Found this here: http://www.aimguns.com/Manufactures_Pages/CZ/CZ_Pistols2.htm

Still don't know what the R means, but have a good idea what it is associated with.

Placed a call to CZ-USA. Got an automated response...apparently the entire staff is at the Shot Show this week.

"R" for refurbished??  Seeing as how CZs are built like tanks, I'm wondering.  Perhaps the pistols that have been returned?

Cliff,

I thought about that too.  I'll call CZ next week and find out for sure.

Does the pistol look brand new? Otherwise "R" maybe used to mean remanufactured, in layman's term refurbished

Called CZ-USA today.  They stated that the 'R' was used as an internal identification on their labelling:

R equals Red Dot
G equals Green Dot
B equals Blue Dot

The 'R' does not represent refurb or return.  An upside down 'Y' at the end of the serial number represents a refurb firearm.

Dan Wesson uses the same system with the "Y."
