SP-01 Questions
« on: February 21, 2009, 07:01:20 PM »
Hi All,

This is my first post here.  A buddy of mine lent me his SP-01 standard and I am in love.  My life has been spent shooting Glocks and for a service / range weapon this is world of difference.

Anyway, in trying to decide between the tactical and standard, I'm wondering the following: how safe is it to carry the SP-01 cocked and locked?  I'm heavily leaning towards the manual safety though if I use this as my night stand gun I am concerned about having the hammer back 90% of the time while kept at ready.  Is the safety redundant so that if the hammer dropped while on, something inside prevents the firing pin from moving forward?

Thanks ahead of time.

I'd say the gun is plenty safe as a Condition One firearm. The orginal CZ 75, sans the firing pin block or even a safety notch, was designed with this sort of thing in mind. If there's one thing the Czech people know how to do right, its how to design an excellent gun.

The standard SP-01 retains the original CZ 75's design, but it does have the added benefit of a firing pin block as extra insurance. Unless the trigger is physically pulled, the firing pin will not move even if the hammer falls on it. It may make for a slightly heavier trigger pull, but it does add plenty of assurance to many minds.

So, the standard SP-01 is perfectly well suited for what you want from it.

That is exactly the type of safety design I was hoping for.  Thank you for the information.

I have the one with the safety.  I tried the one with the decocker and was so disappointed with the trigger pull I sold it and got the one with the safety from Angus with the trigger job.If I was using mine as a nightstand gun I would leave the hammer down, safety off.
After all it is double action.  That's the beauty of the CZ, you can go cocked and locked or double action.
