Rare Silver SP-01??????
« on: February 23, 2009, 09:16:59 AM »
I was surfing GB and came across this:http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=123547599

I would not mind having this one, but I don't think the price he is asking is within my budget. He states that there are only 3 in existance. Does anybody have any information?

Not Krylon or Polycoat. Satin Nickle!

OK, I stand corrected.  Then it is only a $950 premium. ::)

That seller's prices have always been on the high end of the spectrum. I wonder if he will have any buyers?

that gun was out and about about 6 months ago..
seems pricey for being a std SP01 with a finish on it.

It does have a competition hammer on it. Maybe it has some smith work done to it that it doesn't mention. Stuart, where did you see before?

Still...it does look pretty nice (maybe not 'buy now at $1,625.00' nice).  Assuming that this is a post-production finish, you would not be able to shoot IPSC/USPSA, right?  How could you convince a judge that it was a factory finish?

A "prototype"? I've seen CZ release some neat and niche variants of their pistols, like the duo-tone NATO P-01s, but I've never seen them release a prototype to the public. I'd be very wary of this. Unless he could produce some factory literature proving this claim, I'd have to call this into serious question.

Simply writing "silver and blue" on the box's sticker (below where it states it is a "Black Polycoat" gun) isn't what I'd call "factory literature", either. :P

Also note the presence of three squares in the rail, and not the earlier SP-01's two, making this a bit more recent. Keep in mind there's a rumor that CZ has been wanting to discontinue the satin nickle finish in favor of their silver polycoat (which is apparently only available in Europe at the time).

Not saying this gun isn't a factory prototype, but I think this is one of those cases where a buyer would need to do some research and ask the seller some tough questions ahead of time.

It's not a "prototype", it's a dude trying to make a hefty profit.  A nice gun, but still a ripoff.

I believe I saw one in a local store recently. Call CZ - they told me about the history of the one I saw (yours may be a different one).  The one I saw was a limited production model that a distibutor had ordered.  The one I saw was priced at $600

It wouldn't be out of the question for a customer to place such an order with CZ-UB. We've seen such special factory guns appear over time, like the RSR nickel plated CZ 97Bs, or the recently seen Omega 75Bs. Given the existance of these guns, I don't doubt that someone somewhere wouldn've ordered a special run of nickel SP-01s.

However, this auction claimed these were factory prototypes, which would be something completely different in the eyes of a collector. When selling something like this, its best to have proof of such a claim, and if you're a buyer, you need to ask for that proof, ESPECIALLY when the seller is asking such a high premium.

Gun owners have to protect themselves in more ways than one...

I would be very suprised if that is Satin Nikle finish the ones I saw looked like the same Silver Poly coat on the Tactical Sports.
The gun has a  Custom Shop Hammer added and  a set of al grips for sure.
If any one else want one just like that I am sure it can be done for a  price :-)
