CWP
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:46:13 PM »
Just finished my Concealed carry class ( took it over two nights this week ) for South Carolina.  I was getting pretty excited, although I knew going in it would take about 3 months to have the paperwork processed.  Then the instructor dropped the bomb on us....its currently taking 4-5 months!  So much for new holster shopping!!   :'(

The good news is that by the time I get the darn license, it will be time for a new gun!  ;D

Right now in Texas I hear it is taking 8-10 months to get your permit.  :(

Dusty, if it's taking that long then what are they using for the issue date?  The date that the application enters the system or the actual date that the permit is released? Are Texans paying for a 5 year permit, but actually only getting a 4+ year permit?

I thought by law they are required to process your application within 45 days and issue or delay?

It took five months from the time I mailed in the paperwork until I received the actual license.  That was last year at this time.  I hear from the guys at the range where I took the class that the time is now about double that. Texas has been overwhelmed with applications.  ::)

I renewed mine in October and had the new one by the first week in December.

Dusty10, did you track yours online?

yes, I tracked it online but since I live in an area affected by hurricane IKE, it slowed the process down.  At least that is the excuse the state used last year!  Mine was a new application.  Maybe renewals are easier and faster for them??

From what our instructor told us, the loophole, or work around the 90 days turn around time ( SC ) for SLED, is that they don't "stamp" your application received until they're ready to process it.  So they receive your paperwork in the mail on May 1st, they put it in a pile and leave it there, stamp it received on July 1st, they then have 90 days to comply with the law.  Loopholes, you gotta love 'em.  Not sure if this is accurate, his interpretation, etc, but I did hear from a buddy today that a mutual friend took the class in November, and just got his permit this week.

Wow for the 1st time the state of Ohio is actually better at something else than the rest of the US. Let me revel in it for a few seconds folks.....it doesn't happen often.

I took my course over 12 hours on a Saturday. Got my course certificate Sunday. Dropped my application off at the sheriff's department in a neighboring county. Received my CCW permit in 1 week.

I love having the right to carry a firearm to protect myself and my girlfriend when we go out.

Hang in there man. If I were you, I'd start a petition or movement to put a stop to such stall tactics and threaten to only put leaders in place who will work with law-abiding citizens carrying firearms, rather than against them!

Goodness gracious, AZ, drop it in the mail on Monday, have it in hand on Friday, and that is not exaggerating. 5 year permits no, no restriction on type or number of weapons, (NFA freindly, too, carry that registered MAC-10 in the SMZ rig!), no class or fingerprints to renew, just drop a money order in the mail, and back it comes.
Best of luck, sir!

My WA state permit was processed (original issue and each renewal) within 30 days.  Actually, it was more like 21 days.  Almost beat me home in each case.
