VZ-58, What spares to have on hand?
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:47:51 AM »
I'm really liking my VZ-58.  I'm wondering what parts would be likely to fail or wear out.  I'd like to put together a small spares kit while the parts are still plentiful.  I might end up with a whole spare rifle. ;D

I've been thinking the same thing myself lately.  I suppose replacements for all the springs would be a good start.  Dusty

I bought some spare springs from Czechpoint, not a bad investment.

I would keep a spare striker, firing pin, topcover assembly, gas piston, gas piston spring, and multifunction leaf spring.  The striker and firing pin being most important.

I agree I have all of these as well as an extra extractor and ejector.

Rather than nickle and diming it, I went ahead and purchased one of those build it yourself kits.

Which is the entire weapon, minus the back half of the receiver (chopsawed off).

So I have all the screws, springs, little bitty pieces, and big pieces as backup.

I don't know if they still sell them.

I got it off one of the auction sites about 4 years ago.  Honestly don't recall how much.  But it seemed like a good buy at the time as I had just gotten one of the early OOW Vz 58's(their Vz 2000).  Looking back I paid way too much compared to today's prices.  Who Knew!  But I guess that will happen when one is addicted to Czech weaponry.  ;)

Amen. Back to spares, all I have is spare mag springs and a spare recoil and firing pin spring, figure those I know how to replace, and can do so easily. Anything else requires gunsmithing or more basic knowledge than I have right now.
Hmm, I wonder if a "field repair kit" would bean interesting sale item, BUT, that could lead to people thinking the rifle is unreliable, when it is anything but.
