I have in my posession a rifle my father brought home from World War II.  It is not a CZ-US, but I am really hoping that someone, anyone can help me.  I have tried to research this rifle, taken it to the local gun expert, etc....still can't find it anyplace.  Its marked CZ Brno, as, with a stamped "47".  It's a 7mm, has some kind of crest stamped into it, but not the lion head crest.  There's a six digit serial number on one side of the receiver.  The most unusual part of the rifle is the double trigger, as I can't find where they were manufactured between 1945-1948.  Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

The double trigger and 7mm makes me think it was a sporting rifle, especially if made after the war. Otherwise it could have been a special contract, CZ did make rifles for other countries. If it says BRNO, then it was made there. You do not mention if it was sporter or if it is a military rifle  Also it could have been made for Spain, they seemed fond of the 7mm loading.  Need pictures markings on receiver and the general layout of the rifle.  Crest could have also been a special gun made for nobility.  Need more info on the rifle.

It sounds like you don't have a WWII military rifle, but instead a civilian Brno sporting rifle with double set triggers.  Almost all CZ Brno firearms have the year stamped on them, and that "47" is probably its year of manufacture.  Your dad may have picked it up if he was in the occupation forces in Germany or Czechoslovakia after the war (remember that Patton's army ended the war in Czechoslovakia and Austria, and many troops remained there for years to come).  Your dad may have traded chocolate bars and cigarettes for the rifle at that time, or he may have just bought it since G.I.'s had money and most other folks in Europe didn't.  Those were hard times.

There's a lot more info out there too.  Remember that Brno rifles have been hugely popular for decades among African professional hunters.  I don't know much about them myself, but someday after I get the kids out of school and have disposable income again, I'd like to own one or two.

I can't thank all of you enough for giving me some guidance on this rifle...so much information out there that it just gets confusing.  I am on the road currently working, but hope to have pics up by this weekend.  There's a serial number stamped on the rifle "13235" left side of the barrel, any hopes of tracing it through this?  I'm not a gun expert (obviously), but when I took it to the local expert he offered me a $1000.00 on the spot, which really peaked my curiosity.  Once again, so many thanks.

    mystery solved!!  it is a 47 cz mannlicher rifle.  not a military rifle as I assumed.  You guys are the greatest, never would have found all of this information out on my own accord.  As far as the value, well I'm still not sure about it.  This rifle is in mint condition.  Thanks again!!!!
