The HKS-940-K
By: Den S

The following is a Pic-tutorial, where I will attempt to show how the HKS-940-KADET modification  ( The HKS-940-K ) is done.
If you have any questions, feel free to call my cell: 949-254-5812
Or, if after viewing this tutorial, you'd rather have me mod it for you, please e-mail me at:
DenStinett@aol.com

REMEMBER; The HKS-940 (like all HKS loaders) is a model specific loader, so the HKS-940-K will ONLY load magazines for the models listed for the HKS-940
i.e. CZ 75/85, SIG 226 & 228 and there .22lr Conversion magazines

Start by looking at that the plunger "Hook" of your HKS-940. You'll see it has three areas; a groove, bordered on both sides by a ridge. If you compare the two, you'll notice that the groove somewhat lines up with the KADET magazine follower. I have noticed that there are no two hooks alike. One may be off more to the left and the next, off to the right. Compare your Hook to the follower and make a mental note of the amount of material that needs to be removed from each side:

Left ridge cut line. NOTE; on this Hook, it is almost, all of that ridge:

Right ridge cut line. NOTE; only about half of that ridge is to be removed
( remember, your hook may / will be different )

ALSO NOTE; on some Hooks, the inside may need a small amount of work to clear the back of the magazine:

To start the mod, the keeper must be removed from the end of the pivot pin:

I place the head of the pivot pin in a bench block or a 1/2 inch socket works well here. Give the end of the pin a good whack with a plastic or rubber mallet to free the keeper:

And pull the pivot pin free from the loader assembly:

Remove the plunger arm from the loader body:

Using a Dremel, file, emery board or knife, remove JUST ENOUGH material from both sides of the hook to clear the feed lips. A little at a time is best:

Periodically, replace the hook arm and pin to check your progress. Do not replace the keeper at this time:

REMEMBER, you don’t want to remove too much from one side or the other:

Remove just enough material so the hook cleanly clears the feed lips:

Place a dummy or spent round in the magazine, as if to load it. NOTE; the hook rests on the round and does not clear the rim of the case:

Radius the underside end of the hook a little at a time:

Remove enough material to clear the rim of the loaded round. You may have to check your clearance once or twice. A little too much is better than not enough:

Polish or buff all the worked areas smooth:

I feel the loader body is very user “unfriendly” and it also may cause the arm to hang-up during loading. NOTE the sharp corners:

So I radius them and the thumb lever corners:

Note the radiused corner, this way the arm doesn’t hang-up under the loader body. More user friendly:

I also engrave the outside to make for quicker identification:

Remove all excess debris and reassemble plunger arm in loader body and insert pivot pin:

Place pivot pin keeper over the end of the pivot pin. Push it on finger tight:

I than place the end of the pivot pin in the bench block or a 1/4 inch socket works well here. Give the head of the pin a good whack with a plastic or rubber mallet again:

That will set the keeper. Now your HKS-940-K is ready to load your .22lr magazine(s):

not to HJ your thread, but there is a simpler mag loader to modify.

all it takes is to file/sand down the plunger part.

i got mine from the gun show.  you can usually find all flavors of mag loaders.

iirc, they were like 7.00/each when i got mine, but i belive they are more now.  i like them since they are small.  youre not suppose to use them on wide body mags, but im able to get mine to work w/o breakage.  i use them on all of my mags too.

the have "MANTIS" with a patent number on it.

i just googled "mantis" and "mag loader"
