General Question about adding a side mount to the vz58
« on: September 06, 2009, 03:25:20 AM »
I just bought my vz58 and im in love with it, yes its still a virgin ( as in i havent taken it to the range yet  :(  ) but since I have nothing better to do in my time other than find ways to spruce up my guns , I have been wanting to add a side mount on my vz to accompany a scope.
My question is , whats involved in this process? As in I find it rare to see a side mount on a vz58 or some one who has done it. I havent seen many pictures of this, only one. I want to add a scope for those long range shots . And because I just think it looks amazing.

So is this side mount detachable ? Can it be? Or is it a permanent thing? How do they work? How much do they cost? Do you have to buy a scope first , and then get a side mount measured out?

Well heres a picture of what i have in mind, I dont know whos vz this is, i just simply found it on the net. I think it looks bleep great.

That looks home made to me...no idea. I use the Pictainny rail on the forearm to mount a red dot holosight, haven't tried glass yet.

D-Technik is working on a prototype side rail with optional shell deflector. It will be ready in 1 month if everything goes right with the prototype. I spoke with Dan at czechpointusa.com and he told me to email him in a month when it will be ready.

I checked their site and no mention of a side mount yet. Where did you get the pics of the side mount on this thread? It looks like it would work for a scope. I can't find a powered scope that has enough eye relief to mount to my FAB front end. I'm  very interested to hear more about the Czechpoint product coming out. I've dealt with them several times so, I'm sure it will be a great product. Hopefully it doesn't cost to much. I think I could get much tighter groups at 100yds with at least a 3x9 mini mounted instead of just the 1x's red dot.

I too am curious about czechpoints side rail... wondering if it will be Czech military, an AK/RPK rail, or a picatinny rail...

Just to confirm, the side rail mounts found on military issued rifles are for night vision equipment only.  The vz.58 rifle has not been equipped with a side rail for red dots or magnified optics (although, I'm sure you'll find a creative military armorer who has added them to rifles).  A side rail is easy to mount to the vz.58 rifle.  This challenge is to mount an optic that avoids being hit by ejected shell casings.

D-Technik has completed the prototype for a side rail mount that uses AK type mounts.  They've also completed a shell deflector for high profile mounts.  They are now working on a shell deflector for low profile mounts (example: Belarus BP-02 mount).  Currently, they are trying to make a deflector that works with both mounts.  I can't say for sure when we'll have them for sale - my best guess is a couple of months from now.

Thanks,
Dan

I'm guessing that the side mount will require gunsmith to add on... I hope there is an option for those of us with VZ-58s to get them added on w/o voiding the warranty.

It should not effect the warrenty cuz you dont have to have it welded on like the muzzle break. You just have to pop the pins out and maybee replace them with longer ones so it reaches the side mount.

I was thinking that the scope rail would require the drilling of new holes, especially in order to be stable.  I could (read: quite likely) be wrong, sure would be pleasantly surprised to see a no gunsmith mount.  I do hope that it is positioned so the sights are visible and that the optic can be placed over the bore centerline (or at least, have the option of such).

The shell deflector will be a must, don't want to scratch up a $$$ optic.

The side rail will require holes to be drilled into the receiver.  We're looking at providing this service - too early to discuss details now.
