CZ P-06 Mag Info with Pics!! Not 56k friendly...
« on: January 16, 2010, 05:55:43 PM »
First off, I love my P-06 and it's a great gun for all around use.  Awesome stopping power as it being a .40 cal. S&W, but the only thing that irritates me is the 10rd magazine capacity.  Well after reading the many posts on this forum as well as others, I decided that I wanted to buy the 12rd Mec-Gar magazines with the .40 cal. SP01 bases for my P-06.  I tried to find pictures of this magazine conversion in a P-06 online, but I had no success.

So earlier this week I ordered (3) Mec-Gar SPO1 .40 cal. 12rd. magazines from Widener's Reloading and (3) SP01 magazine bases from CZ-USA's website (along with a CZ Pistol poster in which they sent me 2, one was the pistols of CZ and the other was a X-Ray view of the CZ 75D Compact Pistol - pretty cool if I must say).  Pictures below.

Plain CZ P-06:

Finally 12rd. Mec-Gar Magazine with SP01 Magazine Base in my CZ P-06:

Just a note:  These Mec-Gar 12rd. SP01 .40 cal. S&W Magazines seem to lock up much tighter than the Factory 10rd. magazines in my P-06.  I loaded each of the new Mec-Gar magazines with 12rds. and they were not nearly as difficult as both my factory 10rd. magazines.  I will post a range report when I take them out.  Right now I just need to get more ammo.

Oh, yeah?here are the pictures of the CZ Posters that I also received. First is the CZ Pistols:

CZ 75 D Compact Poster:

I hope these pictures help those out who were in the same dilemma as I was before I purchased the new magazines.  Let me know what you all think.

isherman, you da man!  8) Thank you for going through all the trouble to answer the infamous question, " where can I get 12rnd mags that fit?"...with pics :) It doesn't fit flush but I hear you on the Mec-Gar mags, they are more easy to load and unload in my opinion.

Isherman. Great job.
Thank you very much sir.

Mods, this seems to be one of the most commonly asked questions in the P06 club.
This should be a sticky.

I am glad that I can help.  I usually like to see things before I buy them, but this time, I decided to take the plunge and figure it out for myself because no one had posted pictures of their extended magazines on their CZ P-06.  Let me know if I can help out with any more pictures.

Sorry...no range report yet.  I just ordered 1000rds of American Eagle 180gr. FMJ. UPS tracking says it should be in the middle of next week.  If it comes in as scheduled, I plan to shoot it either Friday night or Saturday at my local range.  I will post the range report asap and pictures if I remember the camera.

Great job isherman! Thanks for taking the time to post those photos and the info.

I did the same thing as isherman and added a 12 round SP-01 mag to my collection.

If anyone needs Mecgar's SKU number, here it is below:

I also have some dimensions in case anyone is interested:

Overall Height (back side):
Mecgar SP-01 Mag: 4.737 in.
CZ Factory P-06 mag: 4.687 in.

From bottom of mag to bottom of locking slot:
Mecgar SP-01 mag: 3.011 in.
CZ Factory P-06 Mag: 2.912 in.

Performance:
I took it down to the range a few days ago and ran quite a bit of ammo through the gun using the Mecgar mag exclusively.
The mag and the P-06 performed flawlessly. I had no failures to feed, no failures to fire and no failures to eject.

Conclusions:
I was mainly concerned with funtion and not looks as I already have a few of the standard factory P-06 magazines.
The construction and finish of the mags were first class and as good if not better than the factory magazines.
I will be adding this mag to my carry rotation (as my spare mag) whenever I carry the P-06. The two extra rounds will be a welcome addition.

I've also found these mags for a fair price http://huntersdirect.dealerease.net/catalog/product.asp?ret_id=544150&pid=58282

FYI.  If you use these metal bottomed ones, they will fit flush when you use the SP0-1 basepads.

I think this should be stickied, hey, I can't find the sp 01 base pads on the cz site, I do see 75/85 rubber base plates.

Looks like the SP01 base pads are "out of stock" right now.

Very good info. I bought 2 Mecgar 12 rd. mags today at a show from a CZ dealer. They are very similar to the ones you have except the followers are black not blue. I just switched the bases off the 10 rd mags & it looks & works perfect.

Haven't tested them yet but I don't forsee any problems!

I discovered the same thing with my SP-01 and P-06. Today I'm going to try cutting down a follower (blue one) to see if I can add another round or 2 to the 12 rd. mag. What do you guys think about trying this? I would appreciate some feedback. Thanks in advance. Jack
