Small but rugged low power scope
« on: February 12, 2010, 11:21:09 PM »
That doesn't break the bank - what in this list of restrictions would work with a CZ 527? I don't know what size rings it comes with, or whether or not I can maybe get a Weaver/Picatinney adapter.
I have very little spendable cash, so most of this is speculation, but I would like to know what people think a good rugged scope for this little carbine would be.
I'm thinking 4x or less would be best?

The CZ rings that came with my 550 FS are standard 1" rings. I have to assume it's the same for the 527. Nikon makes high quality scopes for relatively cheap. I believe they're every bit as good as the Burris, Leupold, and Zeiss scopes I've purchased over the years for considerably more money. Weaver would be another good option though I've never had any personal experience with their scopes.

Good luck!  ;)

Buy a meduimly priced 1-4.5x (or similar) Variable Wideview "Shotgun/Muzzle Loader" scope with a 20mm or 32mm objective, if you can find one.  The ones I have are not made anymore, so I can't provide any other info.  I've found that these work very well, at typical Ranges out to 150 yards and maybe a bit beyond, if the shooter is up to it.

Unfortunately, this type of Riflescope seems to be neglected in the Market.  If you can find a deal at a Gunshow on one, it might be a good thing.

Here are a few possibilities and prices.

How do the shotgun/muzzle loader scopes differ from those made specifically for centerfire rifles?

How do the shotgun/muzzle loader scopes differ from those made specifically for centerfire rifles?

Typically, they have a wider field of view at shorter ranges, which I find very desirable.  Lenses are ground accordingly.  Not sure there are any other differences.

Currently, I have 2.5x Shotgun/Muzzle Loader Scopes on my Marlin Camp 9 Carbine, an AR15A2, and a Marlin 512 Slugmaster, which actually is a rifled Shotgun.  I have a Bushnell Trophy Series 1.5x to 5x 20mm Shotgun Scope no longer made) on my Ruger Mini-30.

I also have a Redfield 1x to 4x Riflescope and a Leupold 2x to 7x Wideview squirreled away for a Future Project.

These types of Riflescopes actually used to be more common in years gone by, until it seems that most all manufacturers seem to make 3 to 9 x32mm scopes your minimum option, even for a BB gun.

Greetings,  I just logged on and wanted to add my answer and experience placing a scope on the CZ 527. 7.62 X 39 carbine. A friend let me fire his CZ 527 using the standard iron sights.  I was impressed with the accuracy and handling of the wonderful rifle.  I called the CZ dealer where I purchased the rifle and ordered the standard issue CZ scope mounting 1 in rings.  They are very strong and around $50..... Give or take a few bucks.  I then did a significant amount of research.  I wanted something that was reliable, well made and not outrageously expensive.  I have other scopes and have always purchased on the upper end such as a Trijicon ACOG ( a wonderful scope). For the CZ, I purchased a "Redfield Revolution  3-9x40mm"( Leupold & Stevens brand) I was able to get it on sale and Bass Pro matched the price and it was in stock.  The scope just fits the rifle without Erving the front sight.  This scope does a wonderful job!  Just this week I took the CZ to the range and fired 40 rounds of PPU brass 7.62 x39.  All 40 rounds hit center mass at 100 yards.  80% were within 1.5 inches of the bulls eye.  A very accurate and easy to shoot Firearm.  I was so impressed with this rifle, I purchased one for my son, also a retired vet, when he graduated from nursing school.  He mounted the Leupold equivalent and removed the forward sight (easy to do,also). Hope this helps....

I had a 2-7x33 Redfield on mine.  Nice proportions and had a little extra "power" if I needed it.

The Vortex options are good. The Crossfire 1-4 and Strike Eagle 1-6 are quality, budget minded scopes with a warranty that can't be beat. I've been running a Viper PST 1-4 for 3G in an Aero Precision mount and its rock solid despite getting thrown repeatedly in barrels and carted around matches.

Weaver Rimfire Classic 4x? Rated for airgun, which means that it has a bolted reticle. Parallax is set for 50yards but that should work all right, out to at least 200 meters if you mount the scope at a proper height for you.
A good shot at close range beats a 'hit' at a longer range.

Here's the set up on my .223 527 Carbine:
Scope rings - https://www.midwayusa.com/product/111233/warne-permanent-attachable-ring-mounts-cz-527-16mm-dovetail
Scope - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0090P7SXI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I previously had a CenterPoint 2-7x32mm scope installed so when I substituted the current scope, I went to the range to zero it. The results are below with a dime included for a size reference. BTW, I changed to this scope after first installing one on my .22LR CZ 455 Trainer and being impressed.

2 shot group at 25 yds after zeroing at that distance

2 shot group at 50 yds after zeroing at that distance

5 shot group at 100 yds after zeroing at that distance (called the flier - old man's twitch)

+1 for the Leupold FX-II Ultralight 2.5x20, a tough little scope with generous eye relief that looks perfect on such a compact rifle. I have mine on Warne medium QD rings and it clears the original bolt handle.
