Any owners of the Baby Desert Eagle .45 ACP?
« on: March 03, 2010, 08:15:47 PM »
Just want to know who owns the Jericho 941 (Baby Desert Eagle) pistol?

They are worth their weight in gold, if there were any around to get.

Definately not worth their weight in gold.  Big monsters that aren't exactly carry friendly.  But they shoot just like you'd expect a CZ to shoot and everyone I've ever let shoot mine loved it from the start...still kicking myself for parting ways with mine.

However, if you don't have one and are interested in picking one up you had better do it right now.  Seriously, don't hesitate to pick one up since KBI has closed their doors and Magnum Research is no longer importing them.  Now you know why I wish I still had my BE2 in .45, one in 9mm, and one in .40 cal.  I do not suggest the polymer versions of the Baby Eagle or Jericho 941 though, the metal framed versions feel much better in the hand!

I must warn you that I'm not the only BE2 owner that had problems with the decocking mechanism having an out-of-spec pin in the slide (truly an el-cheapo pin that was replaced with a case hardened pin).  Hey, it can happen.

I have been looking for one with a frame-mounted safety but all I own is the 9mm with a frame-mounted safety.  It has the smoothest trigger of all the pistols I own (while heavier, it has a better trigger than my One Pro).

I have a 941 in .40 S&W and its a fine pistol but not great. A few Pros are the triggers are outstanding right out of the box. Its fit and finish are good. Very, very accurate and the mags fit all my CZs. Now for the Cons- mine has no rail but one can be added or bought with one from the factory. A little heavy but made that way. The Slide mounted safety/decocker, for me is the only Con I hate and hate it I do. Its like they were designing this ultimate CZ copy and decided to throw a beretta 92 design in the mix- it sucks. It disengages the trigger when moved into the safe position and decocks the SA to DA. It can be placed on safe in DA mode. And the worst part is the location of the dang thing, in a racking of the slide situation you can accidently engage the safety when pulling back on the slide, thus making the trigger inoperable when you go to shoot. CLICK?CLICK? instead of BANG/BANG. This, my friend, could cost you your life but not my life, as mine is a range gun only. Now I looked at the ones with frame mounted safetys but they are hard to find, but now this is the way it should have been designed in the first place. If any one has a frame mounted safety 941 in .40 S&W contact me ASAP. Ive often wonder if i could take off the safety and make it DAO with out ruining the pistol, it sure would beat the configuration it is in now. They almost had it right!

I have a Jericho 45FS, the .45 caliber baby eagle with the frame mounted safety. I picked it up many years ago at a gun show. It's not bad, but I shoot my 1911's and my 97B better. It's the upper left one in this group pic.

I have a baby eagle in .45 that I picked up in April. Its been great so far. A couple FTEs but they are working themselves out and I haven't had one in 300 rounds so far. I'm only wishing that they didn't move the grip screws around because I really wanted wooden grips!

Hello all... newbie here! I agree with the previous post regarding the poly version - I thought it was horrible in comparison to the metal version. I really like my .45, I use it as a range gun and it has been 100% so far(2,000++ rds) along with being very accurate.

Well good gravy I thought I was the only one out there with the .45 model!

I have one thats been a bit finniky but now is on the right path. A few FTLs and a new extractor later I'm going about 600 rounds flawless. I will agree it may not be the most carry FRIENDLY but thats more of a personal thing, I don't mind the weight myself.

I've been trying to learn as much as possible about this gun and distribute the info since it seems that nobody else ever speaks up about them.

Mr. I --

After KBI went under, some of the guys from that forum started their own --http://941forum.com/

I've gone back and forth on Jericho .45. If I were to get one, I'd try to get one without the rail (the Magnum Research version). But the weight and lack of importer support (there was a batch of rear-sight drifting problems apparently) keeps me hesitating.

I have heard about 941 forums but every time I go there it appears that I'm the only user the site has seen in months. Maybe I need to look a little closer as every time it shows me and maybe 2 guests as members online. I'd sure like to get more info out there about these pistols

Well, in my opinion if you find one then you're pretty lucky. I've only ever seen a .45 caliber version without the rail once, and it was gone within the week. This might not be persuasion enough to get one, but compared to the other .45s I've shot, nothing feels as secure as my Jericho. The way it falls back onto target is just the nicest part about it. I can't imagine the rail making that much a weight difference.

I feel the exact same way.  The most perfect version would be a full-size, rail-less, frame-mounted Jericho/Baby Eagle/ Uzi Eagle, with frame-mounted safety.

About two years ago I was at a gun show here in Denver and there were about five or six full-size rail-less .45 Baby Eagles spread across three or four different vendor tables. I didn't really know what they were at the time, was interested in one, but picked up my 1911 instead. (Kick, Kick) Haven't seen many since. I am going to try to get up to the LGS in Boulder during lunch. Last time I was in there, he had a KBI Jericho (w/rail). I'll see if it's still there.

He's still got it -- fs .45, 3.93 barrel, slide decocker --$569 (I'm pretty sure -- if not, then close). He's also got a 9 mm.

The young(er) guy that mans the pistol counters said to give them a call if anyone's interested: gunsportcolorado.com/ (yes, the People's Republic of Boulder has a gunshop)

I got pretty lucky when I bought mine in April of 2010, KBI closed shortly after and I've only seen the prices go up from there. Seems people are beginning to notice their value.
