I just picked up a slightly used P02 for  $490, is that a fair price? Are they still hard to find?

You did good :)  I love my P02!!

I just purchased the short reset kit for my P-02, which gave me a reason to disassemble the gun and at the same time polish some surfaces. Pretty straightforward disassembly. Only snag I had was realizing that the ejector was free and pivoted on the sear pin, preventing the removal of the pin. From the parts diagram I realized this and freed the ejector. Of course the tiny spring flew across the room. Fortunately I found it.
The Omega system is quite simple and fewer parts. I polished the sear and hammer notch surfaces, lower half of the hammer that rubs on the frame, part of the trigger base and pivot area and trigger bar, top surface of ejector that rubs on the frame, FPB and lifter arm contact area. I also polished the disconnector where it contacts the hammer. Replaced the hammer spring, FPB spring, extended firing pin and spring,  disconnector and lifter arm with the parts kit. Actually I put back the OEM hammer spring since it is 14lbs vs the 15lb spring in the kit.
Pull weight is almost the same. The only difference I feel is in the smoothness of the moving parts. I have to test the reset when I go to the range.
I also polished the slide rails and that feels buttery smooth when installed in the frame.

What short reset trigger did you go with? I've been looking at the CGW or the CZcustom.  Did you already do the comp hammer? I have been thinking about running my p-02 at IDPA matches and I've been curious about what other people are running.

It's the reset kit for the P07/09 from CGW 92030. No I didn't do the comp hammer, I don't think the comp hammer will fit an Omega trigger system. CGW lists a hammer kit 91090 for the P07/09 which has the Omega trigger. Send an email to David at CGW. I did shoot my P02 at a IDPA match with factory ammo before the upgrade. Gun shoots great. I don't mind the stock SA trigger on the P02. It's always going to have that little creep before it breaks.

Thanks for the info!  I'll likely be ordering the same setup sometime in the very near future.

I sent an e-mail to CZ-USA yesterday asking about availability of the P-02 here.
This was their reply:
Not at the moment. We?ve only brought in a small number of them so far. When the factory has all-metal safety and decocker sets for them we?ll be more interested in making them a standard item. At the moment, the decocker is the polymer one from the P-07.

Thanks!

Anyone know if there is an extended safety available for the P02?

Would really like a P2 to go with my 75 B.  Then both would have safeties and would work the same in a high danger situation.  Called CZ-USA this morning and was given the name of a distributor who might have one in stock.  He said he had a few back in May but hadn't seen one since.  From what he said and what CZ said it looks doubtful than they will be available anytime soon.  Hate to miss the window on a PCR waiting for something that may never come.

There must have been a bunch released and then they dried up.

When I was looking early in May I was watching six or eight on GunBroker trying to figure out a best price. That led me to checking a store that was selling on GunBroker and they showed several in stock. I called and made payment arrangements and got them an FFL the next morning and they shipped that afternoon.

I do like the gun. I bought it to carry when out of town for IDPA matches and to use as a backup if my SP-01 were to ever go down which is not very likely. The only problem is the problem I have with all CZ pistols, short thumb can't release the safety on the draw.

I have taken to carrying it with the hammer down and just firing the first shot DA. I shot a match with it just to get use to it and actually the DA pull is not that bad and I had no trouble getting a good hit with that first shot.

Hard to decide what to do, get a pcr now and hope someday for the P-02 or just wait?

I love the manual decocker (thumb safety only) on my P02, you can manually half cocked it and activate the thumb safety on for more security in mind...cool! or you can cocked it to full with the thumb safety on like 1911 for faster engagement...even cooler!

Exactly why I got the P02.  I manually decock to 1/3 and then flip the safety on.  This way, while I'm manipulating my firearm during holstering/unholstering, or leaving it in the car when I can't bring it due to a GFZ, it gives me that extra amount of safety.  Once it's holstered and tucked in my AIWB position, I click the safety off.  Which is the same condition it would be if I was carrying my P01.

Some brought up that I'm decocking on a loaded gun.  I'm very comfortable with this since I compete with my Accu-Shadow & 97b in USPSA, IDPA & 3gun.  I've done 100's of times.  I still do it towards a safe area in my residence.  What scares me the most is holstering my firearm in the AIWB position with a hot gun and no safety.    :o
I would be more comfortable carrying a decocked gun with a round chambered than one cocked and locked.

When I purchased my first CZ the P02 was not very popular due to the  new Omega trigger system. Granted the P01 had the original trigger that already had aftermarket parts and customization.
My choice was deliberate to go for the P02 because the Omega trigger was supposed to be better out of the box. I did not want to spend as much to fix/smooth out the trigger.
Plus the P02 and all Omega guns have the high beaver tail

I have one! :)

This is a decision by CZ-USA that I whole heartedly support!  Metal guns should have metal controls.  Heck, polymer guns should have all metal controls!

I decided to do my first gunsmithing exercise by replacing the DA springs in my P-02.
I exchanged email with David at Cajun Gun Works and here is the feedback he gave me:

Quote
Lock work is Omega, slide is 75 series as is the hammer spring.  So if you want a crisp SA, better reset, us items off the P-07/.  However, for DA upgrades, use the items off the 75 series webpages

So I replaced the following:
  • 61100 Retaining Pin
  • 61050 Perfection FP
  • SPGK1 DA Spring Kit (13# hammer spring, matching FP spring, and our special FP block plunger spring)

Note: You can buy a kit with the springs and Firing Pin but I didn't decide to replace the Firing Pin and FP retaining pin until I took the original pin out to change springs. It cost my an extra $3 for the second shipping charge.

I can't tell you how much the DA pull was reduced but it is very noticeable. It was an easy install and the price was reasonable for the impact it had on my P-02.

Feeling good about my work I decide to splurge (birthday present to me) and bought a set of aluminum grips from CZ Custom. I replaced a very nice set of CZ Custom cocobola grips and just WOW!!!. The aluminum grips make the P-02 look and feel great. Man I thought I liked the cocobola grips, these black aluminum ones rock.

Very nice 'rukiddingme'

A couple springs and pins really help out a bunch ;)

Those grips look great!

Yep, grips look good, I put VZ's on mine and I like them too.
I changed the front sight to FO  and while I am pretty happy with the P-02 DA I probably will change the items you listed.
Thanks

I'd say they're still hard to find. I'd also say that $490 is a great price!
