New Cz52 on the way
« on: April 02, 2010, 09:55:15 PM »
OK, I bit the bullet (pun intended) and sent off my MO for an unissued CZ 52. I was on the fence for a while, but this guy has realllly quality stuff. I bought an EG Mak from him that was pristine, so I figured , why not. To coincide with this I also bought some surplus ammo. I'm looking forward to my new purchase, what can I expect?  It comes with an extra firing pin, should I look into some upgrades?  Thanks

Yes, upgrades are recommended. . Harrington`s firing pin (#3 competition firing pin) and rollers are essential.  Wolff recoil spring 16.5 lbs , hammer spring , etc etc . You will then have a great shooting , reliable gun. Stay away from the romanian ammo ; it is out of specs in many cases and will get stuck on the chamber . I also heard some bad things from the Polish ammo ; cracked necks etc . Get the Prvi Partizan surplus : Great stuff.

I'm about to order the parts you suggested from Harrington, do you also think I should get the extractor as well?.  As far as the ammo I ordered, it's the stuff from Sportsmanguide. They don't list the country of origin on the website. It was fairly cheap (about $120/1200 rds total with delivery) so I'll check it out when it arrives.  Thanks

Try cancelling the ammo order . I think that it is polish ammo and from the 1950s ... not good.  The extractor ... if you see that it is worn out ; if not, get only the extractor spring.  Also, replace  the slide stop release , along with the screw and nut on gunpartswarehouse.com  Some wood grips would fit nicely too. check the dealer warehouse.com  and be weary of "new , never used CZ-52s ...  in the worstr case, just replace those parts and the barrel and you would have a new gun.

Get yourself a good set of ear plugs and go shoot! My 52 got the nickname Ol' Yeller pretty quick and it is a blast to shoot. It shoots a lot like a compensated 41 or 44 mag.

I got really lucky I got an unissued one from gunbroker about a month ago for $240. But that blackbeararms deal you get about $75 worth of extras tho.

The fact that you may buy an used CZ-52  with some actual use on it,  means really very little, since all the parts for these guns are abundant and very cheap ; in some cases , like the firing pins , recoil spring  and the rollers , is better to replace them just right out of the box . Even brand new barrels  are cheap.

Is the slide release easy to install?  I'm a novice so keep that in mind.  Also, which one? The extra long or simply the extended? The stock one is virtually non-existant.   Thanks

The ones that I have on my two 52s are the extended slide type. In my opinion, those are the strongest . Don`t forget to get also the adjustable slide pivot pin , also from the same store ($6.00) . it will make very easy the adjust and install of the slide release. The install of the release is very simple , just when you slide the pin out, keep the punch in the hole to avoid the takedown latch to jump at you . If you like , take it off slowly, clean the spring and lube it , and put it back again when you install the new pin . It has a channel carved in so there is no mistake.  To adjust it, simply tight the nut slowly and carefully until the slide stop would not move freely up and down , then back off a little until it does . I personally put a little loctite blue on the pin treads , to make sure it would not get loose with use.

My advice would be new wolf recoil and mag springs. Go out and shoot it for a while stock out of the box and enjoy. Your money will be better spent getting good quality ammo. The other item that you need is a nice set of grips. Big Big differance.
