couple questions for ya guys about sights and DA vs SA only.
« on: April 02, 2010, 09:55:31 PM »
so far i have found a wealth of knowledge on this forum and am glad i found the forum. I shoot IDPA and IPSC style matches at a local club and for the last year and a half have been shooting a kimber tactical pro with the 4.25 In barrel in lim10 and either that gun or a H&K usp 40 compact for Idpa matches. I usually use the 1911 for 3 gun and steel as well. I shot a TS about 4 moths ago and decided that the next gun i buy would be a CZ TS or if i could find a good deal a SP01. I ended up getting a SP01 and have been shooting it for the last month.

so far the first thing i did was disassemble the whole gun and go through it and smooth everything out and get rid of what machining marks there were, the trigger went from stiff and a little gritty to super smooth. next i redesigned the trigger pin as i posted in another thread as the original pin was starting to walk on me when i would shoot a lot and the thought of hammering on my gun to flare the pin more had me worried.
so tonight i will order the comp hammer and the single action only trigger along with springs and a magwell and possibly some sights. but here is my question. has anyone gone to SA only on there gun and been happy with it? do i lose out on anything by not having the double action still on there?
my reasoning for this as well as having shot the 1911 kimber originally is due to having muscular dystrophy and having problems with strength in my trigger fingers. while i can still pull the DA trigger with my strong hand i cant budge the trigger in DA weak handed and there is usually quite a bit of that in the IDPA matches. I have no problem with the SA triggers as i can lighten them up and make them smooth to shoot but i cant seem to do it to a DA trigger enough while still having a gun that performs the way it needs to.

the second part to this is the sights on the gun, I bought the cz75 SP01 manuel safety model and it came with night sights. for the life of me i cant make these things work for me. it seems i have to place my front sight above my target to get the shot where i want it. Maybe im just used to my old sights or just need to shoot the gun more but i have put about 1300 rounds through it in about 16 days now and i cant work with the sights as they are. I planned on buying these:

but they are out of stock at the moment so what else would the comp shooters here suggest? hopefully there is an option that wont require modification to the guns slide but that works better for me then the current 3 dot night sights.

thanks again for all the help so far ;D

Greetings and welcome.

I have the Shadow variation of the SP-01. If you are getting the comp trigger, the comp rear sight and Fiber optic front would seem a good choice.

As far as SAO, it might be a good choice for you as well, unless you need to keep the DA trigger for a particular division. Be sure to check the rules that apply before deciding.

You can add a Tactcal Sport slide to a SP-01. pm me if you want more info on that.

Good Shooting.

I agree with CSM CZ Shooter.  You didn't mention the caliber of the gun, but I assume your shooting 'major' power factor.

If you want to shoot in "Production" class in USPSA you need da/sa, otherwise the SA is the best trigger IMO.  9mm works best here.

Everyone has their own preferences on sights, but the Comp rear and FO front sights available at the CZ Custom Shop work well for me shooting USPSA and Steel challenge.  I find them much faster than 3-dot.

Enjoy

thanks for the info guys, im shooting 9mm for now due to wanting to be able to use one gun for USPSA, IDPA and steel matches at the clubs i shoot at. I was shooting a 1911 with a 2.5ish pound trigger in limeted 10 but have now switched up to limited for the USPSA matches and actually shot at another club today.
I installed the aluminum flat grips and griptape and it made a huge differance. Another thing was i actually started using my cr speed holster that i have had laying around for awhile and myself as well as other noticed i was able to get the gun up faster and on target then with my old holster. The factory night sights are getting better but i really want some comp sights with a FO front sight, I put reflective red tape over my front sight today and it made all the differance. Im waiting on the comp hammer and single action only trigger along with the large oversized ambi safetysthat should be here this week. I shot well today, alot better then expected and in the vids i have i can see im not hesitating as much before taking my shots and starting to move a little quicker. here's a pic of the gun as it sits with the new grip and tape:
