What SP-01 Grips do you use for IPDA ???
« on: June 21, 2010, 03:21:01 PM »
I know i need to get the weight down in my SP-01 now since my P07 is going back again to CZUSA for issues. I think i can get away with using the COCO-BOLO grips to get the weight down below 39OZ.

What do you all use?

I doubt you will make the 39oz limit with them.  Dennis Marshal out of Hungry makes thin grips that weigh .4oz.  Those along with replacing the mag brake with a lighter one meant for the 75B should get you down to wight if you use 10 rd mags.  Even then some 10 rd mags weigh more than others so you will have to weigh your gun with all the mags you intend to use in IDPA.  You also can trim the mag brake on each side to remove a little weight as well.

Cocobolo grips look great, but are too heavy.

You'd be better of with the Marschal grips Bob mentioned or find another option.
I currently use the walnut grips from my Tactical Sport.

Same here. Mine weighs under 39oz with the other modifications.

How do they fit on Shadow? Would CZ97 grips fit better? I see cz-usa has both of them, for $55, considering getting those, they are made of walnut too.

97 grips will not fit.

Sorry for not being clear asking my questions.

Do TS grips fit Shadow well? Do you know what they weigh?

TIA.

Have any of you guys bought the gray stained Alder grips? I would love to see a pic of those grips on a SP-01.

Using the following in my tactical i was able to get it to 39oz:

14lb Recoil Spring  -0.3oz diff from Stock spring
10rd  11102   2.5oz
18rd Stock mag 2.7oz

Coco Bola 1.1oz
Rubber Stock grips 2.4oz

Starting weight with my stock SP-01 Tactical on a electronic Mail Scale is;

40.7oz  with 18 round Mag
-0.3oz  switching to 14lb spring
-0.2oz  switching to 10rd 11102 mags

40.2oz
-1.3oz  switching to COCO Bolo Grips

38.9oz is my weight now
Scale reads 39.0oz

Looks pretty good with the COCO BOLO grips, slightly thinner grip profile. Now need to get that trigger tuned. I like the trigger on my P07 , but it is going back to the Manufacture for some work.

I use Hogue checkered G10 grips. They are 0.58 oz per panel vs. .94 per panel...CZ custom aluminum (with grip tape). They are also quite "grippy".

Just an FYI:

Got me TS walnut grips for Shadow, to use in IDPA. Grips are a bit shorter at the bottom compared to factory rubber ones. Still look good.

Now the numbers:

Rubber grip per panel:      - 33.48 gramm or 1.18oz
TS walnut grip per panel: - 10.30 gramm or 0.36oz

After grips' swap, '08 Shadow is at even 37.0oz without magazine (it came with thinner mag break leaf spring).

Cheers :)
