I received my wood grips today from Grips4U!

I think they look absolutely sexy, especially with the polished barrel and matte stainless base plate.  However, they are a bit wider than I had hoped and don't feel quite as good as the stock rubber grips.  Up top by the thumb seems too fat.  I have small hands though, so for most of you I'm sure they will be great.

Also, I seem to be wearing in a thumb print already after only handling it for 10 minutes or so.  I assume it's just oil from my skin soaking into the wood and making it slightly darker.  I may have to try oiling it using the steps described earlier in this thread (although I really love the matte finish instead of a gloss).  Also, I haven't modified the left grip to allow for the decocker to function.  I want to make sure I'll keep these before doing that.

If it's just the top part that you find too fat, it's easy enough to sand off
and thin out. It's the bottom portion that you'll have a hard time narrowing
down, unless you want to smooth out the grips entirely by removing the
checkering which I doubt you'd like to do. :)

FYI,

I contacted Grips4u to see if they would be producing a thinner version, and here is their response:

We plan to make these grips thinner on the next run, but I am not able to tell you when we will produce them again. Probably not in the next 6 months.

:(

EDIT:  Oh, and I have the grips up for sale in the classified section if anyone is interested.

I bought a pair of Marschall grips for my p01 a while back which looked great however what i didnt realize is if you carry IWB and get the finger grooves they poke and rub your side meat so keep that in mind if you do carry that way. I ended up selling them on GB for what they cost me pretty much so no big deal. I think I'll order another pair without the finger grooves and see what they're like. The quality and fit were surpurb you wont be disapointed with the craftmanship i just wish thw wait wasnt so long to get em.

Necro... I bought a set of the Grips4u grips and I have made a few modifications... I didn't like how the grips felt like a beer can in my hands, and I didn't like the checkering. It was not sharp and felt like stuble when i got them. The beer can feeling just solidified the fact that I had to do something about the grips. I sanded the face of the grips and made them smooth. I sent them to a friend to get the skip line checkered and I am going to use the concoction posted earlier in the thread to stain them.

Very nice Nimda!  You'll have to update us when you get them finished.  I'd love to get a set for my Tristar C-100, but no one seems to make a good looking set thin enough.

BTW, what flashlights are pictured there?  8)

Those are my $4.10 flashlights from amazon. Great stocking stuffers/backpack/backup/car flashlights. The only thing I don't like about them is the focus rings. I think they move fairly easily, but for $4, you can't complain too much.

Ah yes, I purchased one of those and gave it to a friend.  They are great gifts as they are rather bright and can run an alkalines (all my other ones run on lithiums).

It would seem that, with all of these custom grip makers being incommunicado, there is an opening in the market.  I would love to buy some custom grips for my compact and my full size like some that have been posted here.  Unfortunately, there are very few options.  Seems like some talented person could make some money by filling that void.

Hand made grips are time consuming. It is hard to make a living if you make grips for a gun that take 10-24 hours per set and you are only charging $125. If you had a CNC machine, perhaps you could do it like grips4u is doing. They can churn out a set of cut, ready to sand/stain grips in 10 minutes.

Got a response from Grips4u on the dimensions.  I'll have to decipher and compare the size to my P-01 rubber grips and plastic grips.

Quote
The panels are slightly thicker, with the left panel including the inletted portion being 7.61mm (.299") at the bottom of the grip, measured in the center horizontally, and 4.21mm/0.166" without the inletting at the same area

The panel is 7.61mm/.301" at the midpoint between the grip screws, including the inletting.

Johnny C,
If you need a comparison on the newer grips I have a set on order for my Canik Stingray.
I could do a side by side to CZ rubber grips once I get them in.
For me I hope they are a thicker cut, but I wear triple xl gloves.
Hopefully I will like them as much as my old style grips4u grips on my 75B SA, I tend to like a fuller palm swell.
