P-01 Wood grips
« on: November 17, 2010, 01:31:02 PM »
I need some help. I have a new P-01 and would like to upgrade to some wooden grips. My only option is to order them blind without being able to handle or see them. For those of you that have them what or who would you recommend. I dont want to change the grip size and I like the way the stock rubber grips feel very secure in my hand. I realize wood is not going to be as secure as rubber so I think I would prefer checkered grips over smooth ones. My fear is purchasing through the mail and then feeling like I have messed up the overall balance of the p-01. Any help would be appreciated.

The grips are not very expensive 45 - 60 bucks. If you get them and don't like them you could sell them here for what you paid or very very close to that.

Marshall GripsMarshall Grips make very nice, quality made, affordable grips. They do not make it very much wider they class it up a ton IMHO.

Don't be afraid to pull the trigger you will be happy and if not someone will buy them here. I have bought 3 sets of wooden grips from members on this site already. I normally jump all over them because I hate the 3 to 4 week wait!

Partial to Marshallgrips myself (my spare set is one of the ones Recoilguy got from another member ) Have had 4 sets of their grips plus a set I bought from Recoilguy that are unknown to me as far as brand goes.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Hakan's are great but seems that no one has found him since the summer?? I wonder what is up with that? However, I bought 2 sets from him over the years and they are beautiful in look and feel, yes the rubber stocker are nice but if you can find him they are like "art" work IMHO. If the links work these are the two he made for me, first "I" picked out the kind of wood then asked if he could find "that" wood for my grips. These are the two sets he made for me.

Here are a couple pair of mine done in Desert Ironwood and Broadleaf Maple by Sam Barbakov of Omega Custom Grips.  He, like Hakan have been MIA for quite some time.  I'm hoping these guys come up for money sometime soon,  They're both incredibly talented.  HEY SAM!!!!  WHERE ARE YOU?!?!?!?!?.........Centurion9

I too put a set of Marshall's grips on mine. I don't think they take away from the balance or feel of the gun. Centurion I really like the looks of those Desert Ironwood grips.
These are Paduak, (African Rosewood).

Maybe it's just me, but when the "gun money" runs out, and it often does, I like to do what we've all done.  Invest in a few new pair of "shoes" for the guns we have.  I'm easily convinced that new grips , like all the Beauties you've posted, essentially provide me with a new pistol.  Everyone of you has a fine pistol, made even better with that gorgeous Wood.  Thanks for sharing them.......

I have Nill Griffe grips for my P01. I dont have a good picture, but they look just like these: http://www.nill-grips.com/Replacement-Grips-for-Pistols_113.html

Nice, matt finish, well made. Look just like the "Ergonomic, symmetrical standard type model" picture. I'm very happy with them.

Hi,

I think the CZ cocobolo's look the best, but the stock rubber ones feel the best.  Not that the wood feels bad though.

Good luck,

Alan

I emailed Grips4U because I like their CZ75 Compact Grips, selling for $49.00

http://www.grips4u.net/product_info.php?products_id=300&osCsid=74e22396553031f1ed54645caca22556

A couple of days later, I got this reply:

Hello,
These grips need a minor fitting for P-01. On the left panel in the safety area.
The grips are not stained, if you will trim them and apply a small amount of oil,
there will be no difference in color.

We will produce the adjusted grips for P-01 in February.

Thank you for your interest.
Pete

Very nice!  They may be a little too think, but those look like a great deal.  I'll have to wait until they get P-01 versions!

Why would the Compact grips be $10 more than 75 grips.  Aren't they effectively the same?

I don't know if you are interested enough in the grips to have followed Centurion9's suggestion
as posted above and emailed the seller. But since I was communicating with him about the grips
I purchased (couldn't wait till February), I relayed your query and this was the seller's reply:

Hello!
the grips for CZ 75 compact are more expensive because they are made of higher grade walnut.

I don't know if, along with price comparison you also did a side-by-side study of the two sets of
grips. I did. And I saw that the regular-sized grips did seem "plain jane" to my eyes and had
minimal grain patterns while the compact's had deeper hues and more pronounced grains. This
was the reason why I chose the grips4u version over the CZCustom set, as well.

On a lighter note, the fact that the regular-sized grips were $10 cheaper wouldn't have mattered
to me as what I needed was a set of compact grips.  And I had no intention of haggling with,
or asking for "price matching" from, the seller based on that price difference.  ;D
