Serpa CQC for CZ P-01
« on: January 27, 2011, 06:58:51 PM »
Modification

   1. Clear the handgun, double check. No seriously, putting a loaded gun in a hot oven is probably a bad idea.
   2. Insert CZ P-01 in to Serpa Holster. The fit was quite tight and very difficult to draw
   3. Removed the parts that I didn?t want deformed. Grips, mounting hardware, etc?
   4. I placed the holster and pistol in the oven at 150F on a kitchen towel. This worked, but when it cooled the holster tightened back up again.
   5. I repeated the above at 200F and 250F. I was starting to get nervous at this point
   6. After removing the project from the oven I wrapped it in another kitchen towel and squeezed the slightly flaring mouth to further form the plastic to the gun.

At this point I thought I was done. Upon later inspection I noticed that the locking mechanism wasn?t properly engaging. The take down pin (right side) was pushing out on the holster and changing the angle of engagement for the mechanism.
Modification Two

   1. I used a lighter to heat the holster in the affected area, inserted the pistol, and applied pressure with the towel to form the holster         around the pin.  A heat gun would probably be more appropriate.
   2. I repeated the above step a second time for the large slide release on the pistol?s left side.

does blackhawk make a certain holster specifically
for the P-01? will the SP-01 fit in it?

No, It is actually a Glock 19 holster. The full article at the link explains that further. The Glock 19 and CZ P-01 are very close in dimensions; with the P-01 being ever so slightly wider in the frame. The holster compatibility chart on here shows that many G19 holsters will work for P-01 owners.

I wish they made one specific for the P-01, but after following these steps, I am satisfied with this holster. Blade-tech does make a P-01 specific kydex holster.

baking holsters for other model firearms......it's come to THIS?
come ON Blackhawk, for cripes' sakes....build a Serpa for the P-01 already!
And while you're at it, one for a P-01 with a TLR-1 mounted would be just swell.

(not knocking the ingenuity...just the fact that crap like this needs to happen for a NATO pistol)

do you have any idea if it can also fit the SP-01? you did a really good job there man, i wish i had the guts to put such holster inside an oven, more so, my gun! blade-tech has a three week turn around time though, plus, i like blackhawk better than bladetech.

jeeesh, tell me about it! these holster manufacturers act as if there are less than 10 people who owns CZs in the world, hence, they do not want to make a specific holster for it!

SP-01: I am not sure. I believe the critical dimensions should be the same, and the muzzle would just protrude some. I don't have one so I can't tell you for sure.

It is ridiculous that this is necessary. I remember when everyone said it was because the P-01 was a new pistol; well it it's almost 10 years old now. I wasn't worried about 200-250 degrees as long as I had stripped out anything that could melt (other than the holster). I don't believe temperatures that low will effect the metal at all.

Another thing that I want to note is that I have read scattered (hearsay) reports of there being a wide variance in Serpa hoslters. Some have ones that fight tightly and others loose on the guns they were made for. I have never seen it myself, but I think it is worth noting.

I joke with my friends that I only own CZ handguns because I like not being able to find accessories.
