Any Interest in a significantly shorter DA reach?
« on: February 01, 2011, 03:47:36 PM »
I have found a way to significantly reduce the static DA reach.  I can shorten the reach by 5mm, which makes a CZ feel like a totally different pistol.  Instead of the trigger being far forward at rest, it now sits in the center of the trigger guard, maybe even slightly rearward, at rest.  Really changes the appearance as well.

Maybe all those complaints about the CZ's long DA reach may have a solution.

I'll post some pics as soon as my digital camera battery charges.

Stuart,

Maybe I shouldn't be givin' away all my stuff  ;)  It involves the disconnector and trigger.  For now, until I post pics, that's as far as I'm willing to go.  But it does make a big, big difference.

So here's some before and after pics.
Original static trigger position at rest:

Modified trigger at static rest:

My finger tip hits the trigger guard and the finger pad can only hit the side of the trigger:

My finger can fully engage the trigger, just like it's supposed to be, much, much better now:

phrozenlikwid,

No, this just addresses the long DA reach.  The reset can be shortened a little, but you would have to remove the FPB to get the greatest improvement. I have already addressed the SA trigger.

This addresses one of the few issues I have wanted to deal with and couldn't figure out a viable solution with my limited abilities.

My bad, should have clarified.  I was really meaning take-up on the SA pull.  I'm familiar with the gains from ditching the FPB.

You are doing some really cool stuff lately Schmeky....

Prom93,

You didn't think I was going to practice on an original spur hammer, did you?

phrozenlikwid,

Unforturnately this mod does not reduce the pre-travel before the trigger bar hits the sears bottom release leg.  Hope this answers your question.  Thanx for the input, I appreciate it.

A forum member has agreed to send me his CZ-75 for a series of mods to include the SA hammer machining, shortening the DA reach, and installing an over-travel stop in the trigger.

He has agree to critique my work here on the CZ Forum, good or bad.

That is my only complaint with my 85 Combat.

I can't wait to hear about the results.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

painter,

You're right.  There are 2 main complaints on CZ's.

1)  Trigger quality
2)  DA trigger pull length

I am confident these can be overcome for a reasonable charge.  I couldn't believe the DA reach has never been addressed.  Actually, the DA reach has not been that difficult to solve.

I am working to make these mods affordable.  I also am working to achieve this w/o the frame, so someone could mail me the parts that need to be modified.

Of course, some folks would need to send the complete pistol and I am in the process of getting my FFL to minimize the expense.  I am a retired former engineer and I am the sole author/owner of a US mechanical patent.  Plus I am a CZ lover.  I think the CZ platform is a world class design, but it needs a few tweaks.

I love to tweak.
