I say go for it. While it cost me more than I planned (had to buy airbrush and everything), with no previous airbrushing experience mine turned out "respectable."
It's easy to strip any messed up DuraCoat (paint remover works well), and the real work is in getting the prep right. That's where I made my mistake. But no matter what, it's only a $200 gun and it will still shoot fine.
Make a project of it, take your time, and you'll be pleased with the results.
