Love the look of your Duracoat finish - terrified that I'd screw it up, if I tried it myself!

I say go for it. While it cost me more than I planned (had to buy airbrush and everything), with no previous airbrushing experience mine turned out "respectable."

It's easy to strip any messed up DuraCoat (paint remover works well), and the real work is in getting the prep right. That's where I made my mistake. But no matter what, it's only a $200 gun and it will still shoot fine.

Make a project of it, take your time, and you'll be pleased with the results.

Wow, that looks great. How did you do the grips? Did you blast and bake them also? What temp did you use on the grips?

I guess I don't understand why people go to all the work it takes to coat a gun, then use Duracoat instead of Cerakote.

I normally blast the grips as well with the aluminum oxide but at a lower air pressure.  I don't use the bake on duracoat, just spray them and let them cure like the rest of the pistol.  Thanks for the compliments!

Well, for me anyway, I ran across duracoat when a friend was using it and got into it that way several years back.  I have had nothing but excellent results with it.  I have been researching the Cerakote as it does seem like a tougher finish and actually opened up an account with them recently to give it a try.  I hope the results are as nice as the duracoat because it sure seems like a durable finish.

jcrntx,

I'm interested in your experience with CeraKote - please keep us posted!

I think that's my new favorite color too. It looks great. Did you spray the grips too? It looks like you did.
