CZ 82 sear spring rant

My god is this thing driving me nuts. I blued my first 82 and had some trouble getting the sear spring to seat right but was able after a number of trys to get it right. So I went out a got another 82 thinking OK I know how to do this so it should go a little smoother. Not so much. I have spent a few hours trying and if I see the end of the spring come up through the hole on the ejector one more time I will melt the pistol down to a chunk of steel and use it a paper wieght.

I have viewed the sailor curt and many other websites with instructions and have tried it different ways and I can not get it to seat.  I had a new spring from CZ so I swaped it with the stock one I got with the gun and still no go.  So if any of you that have done this before live within a hour of Chicago I will drive to you trade almost anything you want (ammo, beer, $$) for help. I guess I will have to break down and bring it to a gunsmith. (if any one has any recomdations for a gunsmith near the NW burbs of Chicago that would be great).  In the 30 years I have owned guns I have never had to use a gunsmith for anything so it pains me to have to admit defeat.

I was thinking of giving it one more try but am afraid that I will break out the 5lb sledge and go to town on the thing.

A couple times I took it all apart, and started over. I used the punch-jiggle the hammer technique. It did take a couple hours, but I finally got it in. A test of patience, is what it is.

OK, you've scared me again!  :P  Every time I even think about stripping down my CZ 82, myself, and attempting to work on it, one of these posts convinces me to leave it alone! :-\

I guess this falls into a battle between: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" and the kid that is still alive in me that wants to take it completely apart to see how it works! ;D

The "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" side just surfaced to dominance, again!   :(

You can split the difference, and break down the slide. That is pretty straightforward with no "tricky" parts.

I tried the method on the site you posted and it worked great for my other 82 not working for this one. I can get the spring under the extractor and so It is not in the hole but it wont engage the auto safety not sure whats happening. I think I have messed up the spring so I ordered a couple form CZ USA along with a new auto safety and will try to get er done when the new parts come in.  If I cant get it its off to the gun smith on Tuesday.

It will test the patience of a saint. Too bad you're not in FL or I'd offer some hand-on help. Other than that, step away, take a breather, review both the stated sites, and try again. If you're damaging the spring, you're pressing way too hard.

It is possible they used cz-83 parts, or an armorer "fixed" it in some wierd way, there's no telling. If you did it before, eveything else being equal, you should be able to do it again, so something is different.

The cz 83 sear spring and auto safety parts are the same so that should not be an issue. But I am going to try it with new parts and see how that goes.

So

I took the 82 to the gunsmith, who is a big CZ guy, he tells me he had never worked on an 82 or 83 for that matter.  He gives me a recommendation for a smith that should be able to help. I call the guy,  no go he doesn?t know anything about them.  I now realize that there is only one person that is going to get the gun back together again and that?s me.  I tried for an hour and could not get it and then went to my shop and mad a little tool out of a small nail. I flattened the end and put a small ridge on the flat end with a small file so when I put it through the hole on the extractor the ridge catches on the spring so it can be manipulated... 10 mins later had the spring in correct and 30 mins later had the gun back together. now I have two nice 82s both blued with nice wood grips. I will post pics soon.

All it is is a finish nail  ground the point end flat and used a small file to put the smallest of groves in the flat side.
