There is not a standard to compare against other than the gun from the factory.
However you gun goes through inspection at certain level matches and it is subject to scrutiny.

I understand the inspection and scrutiny. But if you were to compare with the factory gun then a gun with, say, 20K rounds through it would be at a much greater risk of being disallowed, as its ramp would sure look more "polished".

Disagree, the ramp will be more worn than polished. And if the gun is not clean (say you practiced before the match and didn't clean it) - it's impossible to tell anyway.
Here, I polished ramp on my Shadow, 500rds later, after good cleaning, it DIDN'T look polished at all!!!
I don't clean my guns after every 100rds or so or every range visit... Actually, my Shadow went thru 4500 rds without cleaning and still shoots just as it's supposed to.
As far as legalities go - minor polishing and de-burring is allowed to get you reliable gun function.
