<---- CZ IDPA SHOOTERS who like to shoot sanctioned matches, get in here!!
« Reply #60 on: September 08, 2011, 02:12:16 PM »
That sounds like a blast.  I have shot a few unsanctioned local matches, and scheduled to participated in the Panhandle Classic (Amarillo, TX) at the end of the month.   I am new at competing, but grew up shooting out in the country.  I really enjoy it and hopefully I can continue to improve and acquire better equip.  As of now, I am shooting a CZ40B stock.

Good luck to all the other shooters out there.  Have fun!

1- A wise man once said that you can't miss fast enough to win.
2- I plan on having one myself to shoot at the World Championship in September.

1- What a GREAT QUOTE! That is one I will start repeating. I just did my first local match and I like accuracy so I shoot slower than most. I figure the speed will come with practice and more experience and more time. Thanks!

2- Did you end up using your Cz in the Championship? If so, tell us about your experience with it and how well your did.

3- If you shoot SSP, do you squeeze the first round DA or cock the hammer on the way up and fire SA?

Thanks,

I enjoy shooting my Shadow and my CZ85 Combat in both SSP and ESP Divisions.  To be honest though I find my times are slightly faster using my M&P due to it's lighter weight.  The CZ's though are more accurate for me which helps when we are faced with the occasional stage out to 35 yards.

This year I joined the revolver crowd using my Ruger GP-100 just for fun and really enjoyed IDPA with a revolver.  The game is quite different with only six rounds available at a time.  Loads of fun either way.

That was the advice I was given too: focus on accuracy and speed will come. Unfortunately, it's very hard NOT to get caught up in the excitement of the moment and rush while trying to be competitive. I think shooting a clean string with 0 pts down in 15 seconds is "better" than shooting the same string in 10 seconds with 10 pts down. Both get the same score, but the slow shooter will speed up over time. The fast shooter is usually unwilling to slow down to gain more accuracy.

I shot my SP-01 and now my Shadow in SSP, so it's DA 1st shot always. I thought I wanted to go ESP, so I spent 4 or 5 practice sessions starting from SA. What I realized is that it'll take some time to develop the muscle memory to fiddle with the safety off the draw. Even after I get that down, it'll be harder to fight my way to the middle of the pack in this tougher division...not that it's all about scores.

I switched from a M&P 9MM Pro with the Apex AEK to a 75 Shadow T and I still really love my M&P but I get that second shot off faster with the CZ.
That extra weight means I hold the pistol more steady and with less recoil.
I need to replace the front red fiber optic sight with a green though.  I see green much better.

I had to withdraw from the match.  I was supposed to work SO at the match but I had surgery on my throat a few weeks before.  It took quite a while for my voice to recover.  In fact it's only 95% right now and may never be back to normal.  As for the CZ 75 Shadow T, I had it converted to Single Action only with one of the CZC straight triggers.  It's sweet.  I'll be shooting it in ESP at the Georgia IDPA Championship at the end of this month.

I just shot the 2011 Georgia IDPA Championship.  Instead of shooting with my 75 Shadow T, I chose to shoot with a 75B converted to SAO.  The pistol ran flawlessly and I was shooting my best sanctioned match to date until the rear sight came loose half way through.  It was on lucky Stage 13.  I was wondering why I missed the distant targets, thinking it was me having a meltdown.  We went back down the hill and went to Stage 2.  Again, everything was working well until I looked at the pistol and the rear sight was all the way over to the left side barely hanging on.  After that stage, I went to the safe area, centered the rear sight, applied some locktite, and tightened the screw.  Everything was good after that, but by that time, the match was over for me.  >:(

It was a fixed sight.  The previous owner installed a Tactical Rear Sight and a red fiber optic front sight.

I have shot 6 sanctioned matches with a SP-01 Shadow in Esp this year with a match bump at Va State match to Expert and just shot the Blackwater Match, 3rd in ESP Expert 9th overall.
