Waitaminnit...you can own the fully functional firearm and the ammo, but you can't shoot it? That's a truely bizarre law right there.
You are certainly NOT wrong. But that?s not the most weird of our laws we have many. Get your head around this one. We have to show a firearms licence when we buy ammo, even from a single packet of .22. However we can walk into any sports store and buy a loading press and all the components by the wheel barrow load without one.
The differences in law throughout the world would make an interesting study. But you guys have your own illogical laws as well. What about your regulations on silencers or have you ever tried to export a firearm out of the USA?
Maybe we could start a whole thread on the weird laws that linger around?
$6000 US for a new light machine gun would be a dream, since the newest we can have is 1986, and the cheapest I have seen was a lousy MAC -10 room broom for $5000+, the kind that sold for $400 including transfer tax stamp before they closed the Registry.
Sorry I must have misled along the way. I do have two brand new 59?s but they are dated earlier as I understand they have discontinued making them. One is 1963 and the other 1965. Both are new un-issued though. When I said they were selling for around $6000.00 I meant NZ$ not US$. I did not pay anywhere near that for them more like about 1000.
The same went for the 58?s. I have four, one altered to be semi auto that enables me to shoot it and the other three are brand new selective fire. They sell for around 3500 to 5000 in used condition and I paid around 700.00 for new ones.
