Clothing for Concealed Carry

Hi there. I am a lady that has CCW and am looking for some good clothing that is designed specifically for concealed carry (is there such a thing?). I currently wear slightly baggier shirts, and pants that are either one or two sizes too big...this helps but I am looking for something that can help out specifically in the summer months. Winter is easy enough, and is long where i reside so that helps things. Just wondering what other women do. Thanks a bunch!

My wife uses a Blackhawk fanny pack mostly, but she has a few very nice inside the waistband rigs. There are a few places that make holster specifically for women, but i can't remember who right off the top of my head. Don't use a holster purse if you don't have to - off body carry leaves too many openings to be "relieved"of your sidearm.
A good belt is a must, czech out the High Noon Rock Steady, as they can come in narrower sizes, and offer embossing to look like snakeskin, ostrich, and I think a few others, so not to appear like you borrowed somebody's work belt. Of course, that does limit the clothes you can wear. What sidearm are you carrying?

I totally agree with the "off body" carry...at that point what is the point. I carry the S&W M&P in a Com-Tak C-tak IWB. I have had a hard time finding good IWB's for the CZ 75B. Most companies have holsters for the the P-01, however i shoot the M&P better. I have an OWB - forget the brand right now- for my CZ and in the winter will carry when I know I will be in a jacket all day.

I will for sure be checking into that belt, cause i agree sometimes it looks like i am wearing my husbands work belt. I will also check into the female holsters, see if they are worth getting, or someone simply labeled them for women.

Making your own holster is not that difficult - lots of internet how-to sites are out there - and if it is IWB, it doesn't need to be pretty, just functional

I started by copying the process shown HERE with np previous experience working with leather.  My first holster looked awful but worked.  Below is an IWB I made for my son . . it was the eighth holster I've made, to date.



This was my first try:

Hawaiian and other tropical-style shirts are roomy to enhance airflow, and their noisy prints provide good camouflage againt your sidearm printing.


A thigh holster is virtually undetectable under a dress or skirt.


When I got my CPL I just quit tucking in my shirts.

Coronado Leather makes a lot of high-end concealed-carry capable garments: jackets, vests, waist packs, bags, etc. Not cheap, but excellent quality, concealable but with ready access.

You might look up Karla Van Horne at PURDEY GEAR LEATHER, I know that in the past Miss Van Horne has made holsters to fit women and get the pistol grip out from under a lady's ribs. The only piece of her gear that I own is the little J frame two speed loader case for my S&W 642 38 special. And I don't know if a concealed carry vest would work where you live during the summer or not. I've been trying to get stuff off my hip belt and use the CORANADO LEATHER vest to carry an aluminum frame Commander size 1911 until it actually gets hot out. This works pretty much like a shoulder holster in that the weights carried on my right (I'm left handed) shoulder. It's not a speed rig but you can conceal pretty much any handgun with it. You access the pistol thru the vertical snap pocket. There's a larger Velcro patch that lets you position and holds the Coronado's vest holster. The actual holster is a bit rinky-dinky but oddly enough works well with the 1911, but not a 3" S&W model 65 revolver. Coronado Leather also offers concealed carry handbag if your willing to go off body. And as a couple of others have mentioned you can always roll your own. The S&W 642 revolver pocket holster and the two S&W revolver holsters (blatant rip off's of Milt Sparks model 200 holsters) are home made. It doesn't take much out lay to make a half way decent holster.

My wife has CCW's for several states (non-reciprocity issues). She struggles with the same issues, how best to carry. She has tried a lot of ways and, for her, she seems to prefer the belly bands.

I'd suggest seeing if there is a "the well armed woman" club in your area and joining that.
