Would You Like To See a Single Stack RAMI?
« on: October 05, 2011, 07:54:28 PM »
Just brainstorming here, but I'll be getting my CHL soon and have been looking into many different concealed carry options.  I've been eyeing several of the newer "pocket nines", but none of them seem to be just what I'm looking for.  The RAMI feels the most comfortable, but a bit thick compared to the PM9, LC9, PF9, etc.  What I'm looking for is a SLIM handgun for those times when I either need a more tailored, put together look or during the brutal TX summer months when even a t-shirt and shorts feels like a down parka.

None of the offerings from other manufacturers have the ergonomics of the CZ, so I was imagining the perfect (for me) single stack 9mm based on the CZ design.  I put together a list of features I'd like to see and am curious what others here think.

?   Similar ergos to the RAMI, but in a slimmer package ~0.9"
?   Alloy or polymer frame options (I prefer alloy and interchangeable grips)
?   Single stack capacity in the 6+1 (flush mount) or 7+1 range (pinky extension) range
?   Night sights standard (I like XS Sights for a gun this size)
?   Omega Trigger System (I like options!)
?   Not a must have, but an integrated laser or an available Crimson Trace Laserguard would be nice

What other features would you guys like to see?  If CZ produced something like this I think it would be very competitive to guns like the Ruger LC9 or Kahr PM9/CM9, which seem to be extremely popular.

I don't expect anything like this from CZ anytime soon, of course.  I guess I'm just dreaming, but still fun to imagine.  What do you think?  Would you buy one assuming a similar price point to current CZ offerings?

Simple answer, yes.

However, I do like my double stack Rami due to magazine inter changeability with my CZ75/85.

Ok. Guess demand for such an animal isn't as great as I thought it would be. Perhaps there isn't a spot wiring for me at CZ's marketing department after all. Lol.

I would be interested in a pocket 9mm from CZ. I've been really happy with my Rami and would prefer to get a CZ single stack vs a Kimber, Kel Tec or Ruger.

I don't know if there is enough demand for it though.

You would think that with the popularity of the Kahrs, Rugers and Kel-Tecs that a comparable CZ would be hard to keep on the shelves.  The others just don't quite feel right.  Close, but no cigar.  The triggers on them are all so so, especially the Ruger.  They all feel just a little unbalanced or the grips are not quite right, or whatever it is.  Guess I'm Goldilocks and the CZ is juuuust right.  But if there are only a handful of us out there then it really doesn't make sense from a business standpoint.

It can be very hot here in Austin.  A single stack RAMI is doable but I'm guessing that it is some time (if ever) away.  It should be fairly easy to carry a RAMI concealed.  If it isn't doable for you, consider a CM9.

Yes the CM9 and the PM9 seem to be the best of the bunch...at least for me.  I figured I'd have to go that route for the time being.

I don't see much benefit from a single stack. You lose capacity, the weight advantage would be minimal, and the grip circumference would be too small for many hands. My Rami fits me perfectly, but Kahrs, for example, were too narrow for me to grab comfortably.

Well, yes, you loose capacity, but that is acceptable to me.  Every individual has to consider their needs and there are always tradeoffs, but the point is to have options.  The RAMI fits the hand nice and I like the CZ triggers over the others, but it's just too bleep thick for a pistol that size.  I might as well carry a compact.  And in certain situations I will.  Again it's about options.

In the end, I suppose I'll just throw a Hogue grip on the PM9 and live with it.  I do still like the idea of all my defensive weapons having similar ergonomics and triggers, though.  One can dream, no?

That would be a close to ideal CCW for me! I was interested in Ruger's LC9 until I heard that even though it's got a DA trigger, there's no DA follow up shot if the round doesn't fire the first time. You've got to rack the slide for a new round (you may have to do that anyway but with a CZ you get another trigger pull first!)  :P

I have a RAMI and a Kahr K9.  I was just thinking the same thing about a week ago.  Would love a single stack RAMI.  I went to store and handled a CM9 and I agree about the trigger.  The trigger is not terrible it just seems like things are starting to get cramped when you get alllllll the way back to where it finally breaks.

When I saw this:
http://www.smith-wesson.com/wcsstore/SmWesson2/MP_Shield/index.html
I thought all over again, "Dang, why isn't there a slim single-stack CZ RAMI?" All designs are a compromise But this one pretty much nails it.

If only it were a CZ!  ;)

Yes, it sounds like S&W nailed it.  Initial reports are extremely positive and I'm definitely going to be checking it out.  The Kahrs are just too darn expensive for me right now.  If the Shield comes in under $400 actual street price it will be hard for me not to get one.  I'd still like to see a CZ single stack, but if it works it works and I don't really care who makes it.

Yes...I would jump at the chance for a single stack Rami...the trigger reach on my Rami is 3" and a little long for my stubby little finger...a single stack would bring the trigger back to ~2.5"...much better for me
