CZ 75 10 or 16 Rounds?
« on: October 27, 2011, 12:23:44 AM »
I am a CZ newbie who will purchase a CZ 75BD within the next ten days, but have not decided on the 10 or 16-round model. (Only the 16+1 has been personally examined.) I don't really care about a high-cap gun because this is more a combat weapon rather than a range handgun. (If you can't knock someone down in 5 or 6 shots, it's too late.) But I am curious. Was the 10-round gun developed only because of California? Is it a single stack magazine rather than a double? Are the 10 and 16 mags interchangeable in the same gun? Are the two frames identical? Other than not being required to reload as frequently at the range, what is a good reasom to buy the 16+1 rather than the 10+1? Thank you.

As far as I know, 10 round capacity guns are really just intended to satisfy the laws of particular states.  I don't believe the frame is any different whatsoever.  It just ships with lower capacity magazines (and sometimes costs more as a result  :o).  Unless your state has silly laws aimed at higher capacity magazines, there's no reason not to buy the 16 round model.

And not to derail your thread, but self-defense situations frequently involve multiple assailants and are often over in just a few seconds (for better or for worse).  I'd prefer not to waste any of those precious few seconds reloading if I had the choice. :)

you are right bozwell.  that 15th or 16th round in a high cap mag may just save the life of a loved one or your own.  :)

Thanx for the input, Boswell and Kobus. Makes sense...common sense I'll go with the 16+1.

+1 on what bozwell said

Buy the 16 round stock version not the handicapped 10 round unless required by law in your state.

I have kind of a different take on it based on economics.

If you plan to shoot a game with a 10 round restriction, go with the 10 round ones and use them at the range.  You can get aftermarket 16 round Mecgars for $20 a pop for all other purposes.  If you ever want the 10rd ones (like trying to make weight with an SP-01), you'll pay around $40 a piece for them - there's no cheaper aftermarket source.

Alternatively, you could get it with the 10 round magazines, sell them here for $35-40 each, and buy Mecgar 16 rd mags for $20 each.  That would drop the price of your pistol purchase by $30-40.
