muzzle brake choice
« on: December 15, 2011, 04:25:02 PM »
Hey gang,
Gonna be installing a muzzle brake on my VZ as my winter project.  But I'm torn between the Czech style brake, and the Crusader brake.  Anyone have thoughts on which one does a better job with recoil reduction?  Muzzle flip is a consideration too, but a secondary one.  Thanks.

Anyone tested that design to see how it changes accuracy though?

Yeah, I was considering the night brake too.  So many choices out there.  I second Kaizer Dan's query on accuracy too, for the night brake and the others I mentioned.

I have the Crusader brake and ObiWanBonJovi installed it for me. Works really well at controlling muzzle flip, I've enjoyed it so far.

from my testing of the night brake, it did not seem to affect accuracy at all.  The only difference I noted was massive reduction in recoil over a muzzle nut.  With winchester ammo flash was reduced as well, but with wolf I noticed no difference in flash.  The recoil reduction was not noticably different from the Czech style brake I went back and forth and could not tell the difference.  I would rate them as equal, and would recommend the one that you find more aesthetically pleasing.  The night brake is a little bit lighter, but barely noticable.
I would rally like to see some third party reviews, but have received very little feedback on them, all of it is positive, but none has been detailed.

Have you tested the night brake at night and if so what's the flash signature like with the night brake ?

BTW: I'm a new guy, just signed up yesterday after reading here for a month. I ordered an Sa vz 58 Military from CzechPoint Monday and can't wait to get it. ;D

Well, now I'm really torn, with the Night brake being the shiny new contender.  I just am not thrilled with how it looks, prefer the Czech brake.  Any thoughts out there on Dlask?  I hear the A6(?) is nice, not sure if you can get it here in the states though.

IMHO I don't think you'd notice any difference in the effectiveness of any of the aforementioned brakes.  And would recommend choosing based on aesthetics.
I have used many different styles, and other than a few worthless brakes, most of the popular styles are very effective at controlling recoil, to the point where you would have a hard time discerning which is "better"
The czech style will be the quietest, and the crusader the loudest, of the ones you mentioned, but again that will be barely noticeable.

Congrats!  Post up pics when you get it.  I'm going to put some of mine up, as soon as the brake is installed.
