Range Dog
« on: January 27, 2012, 02:57:32 PM »
Here are some pics of our Belgian Malinois range dog.  She is great at herding horses (and people).  She grew up at the range, although I make her 'stay' a good distance away to save her ears.  She's calm around the sound of gunfire.  This breed has to have a job (high drive), so I have her walk the range with me after we're done to help me 'find the brass.'  Similar idea to finding drugs - the vocation for which she was originally bred.

This is a link to a great, fun video about the breed (drive, fearlessness, etc.).  For the best effect expand the Youtube video to full screen and turn up the volume BEFORE you play it.  Enjoy.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvJQSH8evWc

She really gets her arms (ok, legs) around dinner.

That's the breed my Dept uses for drug and explosive sniffing. We also had the first dogs trained to sniff cell phone batteries. GOOD dogs! Very nice, sir.

Very nice!

Be careful.  I would not want you to lose such a fine dog due to someone else's stupidity.

Man, that's a sad story - also puts LE in a not-too-favorable light.  We just lost a Richland County Sheriff dog last month.  The canine protective vest fund is a good cause that I support, but in the Richland County incident I'm not sure if it would have mattered.  A shame it didn't end differently, if you know what I mean.

     Gorgeous dog sir.
