So, perhaps the only drawback to the Vz-58 is the issue sights. I, like many shooters, much prefer peep/ghostring/aperture style sights (like an an AR-15).
Trouble is it seems there is no way to get a TRUE aperature style sight setup on the Vz-58!
Now, I know some will say you can get a peep hole to replace the rear sight leaf, but that does nothing. A true aperture sight will sit very near your eye. About the only way to reasonably mount an aperature near your eye so far for the Vz-58 that I have seen is:
One could presumably mount a BUIS on this.
Only (major) problem with this is you have to get an AR type stock and the BUIS would be waay to high to work with the standard front sight post. There are some very low mount peep sights that would work, but the problem then would be you couldn't get your cheek low enough to aim!
Anyone given some thought to this type of setup. Unfortunately techsights is not planning on making a setup for the vz-58 like they have for the ak-47 that solves this problem.
What I could really use is this same stock adapter, but instead taking the standard vz-58 wood/folding stock instead of being forced to select an ar-15 type tube. That way your cheek would sit low enough that you could use a low mount weaver peep sight, such as:
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=48/Product/WEAVER-BACKUP-BASEand the issue front sight, and have a TRUE peep sight setup for the vz-58.
Such a mount would be useful to red dot shooters too I would imagine.
