Part Substitution -- Part #63, fixing insert
« on: October 25, 2012, 03:48:47 PM »
First time I took my PCR apart (to polish internal parts) I lost part #15, the firing pin block lever spring.  Easy to lose, not often found.  And, old news.  This time, I was in a hurry (I had decided to polish the hammer). And, this time I lost part #63, the fixing insert.  (Also very small, and just as good at hiding).  After a diligent search, including running the vacuum cleaner and sorting through the dust-cup... no luck.

I called David at CGW and was told that he did not sotck the part.  However, he also suggested I try a hobby shop or computer repair shop as they might have a small washer that I could substitute.  Good Advice!  I went to my local hobby shop and found 2.5mm washers that fit perfectly.  Total cost, 89 cents, plus tax, for eight washers.  FYI, and thanks, David.

Oh yeah, I may never take my PCR apart again!

With a few chances for practice, I've found a BIG speaker magnet (6"?)d rug over a gridded area ( ;D) works 100% of the time --so far.
