Grip/frame size
« on: February 27, 2012, 12:38:10 PM »
Hi all,
Had an interesting weekend in that I got to shoot numerous handguns in comparison to my 75BD. 2 things became clear. There was nothing I liked the feel of nearly as much as my 75 and this is not just because I am used to it. The other thing is that I like .45acp. I was thinking about getting a 97BD but wonder if the grip/frame size is any different. My hands are not huge so if there is a size difference it might be a deal breaker.
Thanks!

I have relatively small hands myself, and yes the grip frame of the 97B (in my case) is a large one. It's a superb weapon in every regard, but  I had to make certain adaptations to it. For one, I can't  maintain a proper firing grip and operate the manual safety with one hand, nor can I use the double-action trigger very easily with one hand.  I did learn how to quickly operate the safety and go back to the firing grip one-handed, and for any situation that would require a quick double action shot I could manage it, but for the most part I have reconciled myself to operating the pistol with two hands. In that manner, the heft, balance and accuracy of the gun made me fall in love with it.  I've read accounts of them being sensitive to HP ammunition, but I wouldn't know because I use nothing but RN hardball in it (and don't feel in any way handicapped). It has been perfectly reliable.  I guess the salient points to you would be that it's a great gun, that carries ten + 1 rounds of a great cartridge.  As I share your fondness for the 75, I will also tell you that nothing will compare with the ergonomics (save the P-01) of that wonderful piece.  Good luck.

LTRace, I just checked out that EERK on the Cajun Gun Works website and it looks like just the thing I need (as does the trigger pin kit).  My order goes out today, and I thank you for the information.  I think you may have made me happier with a gun I already love.

Very cool Boo Radley, you might consider his spring kit too. Really helps the DA pull and super reliable FP hits.

I have done the EERK to 3 of my 75's.  Made a world of difference.

If it works as well as I hope, I guess I'll have you to thank for buying another 75.  Geez, I've got to run from this place!
