Just ordered my 97B today
« on: April 04, 2012, 03:53:48 PM »
Hi Guys
I just ordered my 97B today and should have it in a couple of weeks.
I have a 75SP01 and love it. I've heard only good things about the 97 and decided to try one.
I also own three 1911's, 2 in .045 and 1 in 9mm.
I'm looking forward to shooting the 97 at my club as most members have 1911's and were impressed with the SP01.

They seem like huge pistols.

What are they like to shoot?

I was already despicable, long before it was cool!

I had a chance to fire one at my local range. Wow what a gun.  The trigger felt real smooth and the recoil was very soft; very simuliar to an HK Mk 23 as far as recoil is concerned.  Also very accurate.  This will be my next 45.
The only complaint I had with this particuliar range gun was with a full mag, the first round would not feed at all.  I am not sure what caused this-might have been a dirty gun and the feed ramp needed some polishing or the mag itself was having issues. The remaining nine rounds fired fine though.  Hmmm

Hi Guys
I guess we should say where we're from when we post something.
I live in Quebec and the dealer had it in stock after i'd asked him a few months ago if he ever carried the 97B. I'd just bought my 75 SPO1 Shadow from him. He had inquired when I'd asked him and FN Canada, the importer, told him they had some in stock and which one did I want, Black or Blue finish.
The couple of weeks I mention is the time it takes for him to send the paperwork to the Provincial Police and they issue a transportation permit. It never takes more than about 10 days for the permit. so I should have it by the end of the month.
The 97B i wanted was blued with wood grips. It's a large gun but I have large hands and it fits me perfectly.
It's not very different from the SPO1 in terms of grip, a little larger but not much.
If it shoots anything my SPO1 and from what I've read on different sites, it will, then I'll be very happy with it.
I'll let you know when I actually do shoot it though.
I'll try the wood grips and if I don't like them I'll order a set of rubber grips.
I'll also try and post photos of it and all my handguns in the comming weeks.
I also own a Rock Island 1911 in .045. It's the target model. I had a hell of a time with it at first. It was so tight that I couldn't fire more than a couple of rounds without it jammimg. I thought it was my reloads but after trying factory ammo with the same results I stripped it completly and gave it a good cleaning.
My last session with it was flawless with all types of ammo, my reloads, 185 and 200 gr semi wad cutters as well as ball and factory ball ammo.
I did replace the recoil spring for a 12 pound and that was the only change I made.
Good luck finding a 97B guys. Sometimes I think that the shortage is deliberate in order to keep prices higher, or demand is extremly high!!

Well I shot my 97B for the first time last weekend. I tried different loads and bullets.
It shot extremly well with Berry's 185gr semi wadcutter's and 230 gr ball but it didn't like the 200 gr flat point from Berry's, something I don't understand??
The loads were slightly over minimum and it cycled well. The first 15 rounds punched a ragged hole in the center of the target at 15 yards.
The grip fit very well, slightly larger than the Shadow but nothing I couldn't handle.
I had the RO try it, he's much smaller than me and didn't notice the larger grip.
I wouldn't hesitate to suggest or recommend it to anyone unless they had very small hands.

Hello all, I know this post is a month old or so, but the CZ custom shop has the 97BD in stock right now for under $700. I picked one up off of gunbroker.com this weekend for same price w/ shipping. If I didn't win the auction at gunbroker.com, CZ Custom was my next stop.
CZ SP01 9mm
CZ 97BD .45 ACP
CZ75B .40 S&W
