+P ammo
« on: June 18, 2012, 01:44:26 PM »
Forgive me if this has been answered before but I went a good ways back on the message board and couldn't find a thread. I've ordered a 75B chambered in 9mm Luger and it's purpose will be home defense. I'll mainly use cheaper ammo at the range but at home I want to keep good hot loads in it. I'm leaning towards Ranger T-Series 127 grain +P's and just wanna make extra sure my CZ can hold up underneath that pressure. With that steel frame it seems like it should eat +P ammo like candy but I do wanna make sure so I thought I'd ask you guys.

okay, if I'm reading that right and I think I am, you definitely don't recommend the 127 grain +P+ Rangers but the 124 grain +P's should be perfectly okay. Thanks for the wisdom!

The 75B will stand up to a limited diet of +p+ ammo...but why?  It is harder on all stress points on the gun, and there honestly isn't that much difference on the target with 3 grains of weight and 60 feet per second.

I shot a few rounds of the 127gr +P+ in my P-01. It is HOT. Not something I would use very often.

When I carry my 9mm for duty, I load the 124g +p Rangers. They are more than adequate. I would not risk  more than a few +p+ since there is no way of knowing the pressure and the miniscule (if any) gain in velocity over +p is not worth the chance.

+P+ and even +P have separation issues, as in separating you from your money.

There is plenty of modern factory standard to high velocity (non +P) HP/defense ammo that rates very highly in tests and in after reports. I'm a big fan of Hornady's defense ammo, it never gets a bad review, well unless it's done by a techno nerd dipstick or another.

Maybe the place to start is by canvassing the local shops to see what you can buy. I have a "cop shop" nearby and they always have the latest defense loads, but not everyone is so lucky. Also, some of this ammo seems to exist only in advertisements.
